SFU Class 4 - Soldering

Description: The Soldering Class will be the fourth class in the SparkFun class series. This will be a hands-on class where the students learn techniques to help them solder surface mount and through-hole components to their circuit boards.

Classes take place within SparkFun. We provide all the tools, irons, solder, parts, and seats for 20 people. You'll be soldering the SMD Simon Kit together. By the end of the night, you will have a functioning game to take home and show off to your friends (we get funny looks all the time).

There is a minimum age requirement of 15 years old, but other than that, anyone is encouraged to sign up. We teach people all the time with no previous soldering experience! And if you know your way around an iron, we can also show you some advanced tips and tricks (flux, wicking, hot-air rework, etc).

If the weather decides not to cooperate (if it snows more than a few inches), we will attempt to have the class one week later. We're not out of bad weather season yet!

We scheduled the class within the end of the workday so that you can beat traffic. Class starts promptly at 5PM!

Prerequisites: This class is designed to follow both the Eagle class and the Procurement class. The participants will use the board they designed in the Eagle class and submitted to BatchPCB, along with the parts ordered in the Procurement class to assemble their project. If you are not taking the entire series of classes, be sure to let us know so we can get you the parts you'll need to assemble your board.

What to bring: Don't forget to bring your PCB from the Eagle class, and the parts you ordered from the Procurement class. If you didn't take these classes, or if you haven't received the PCB or the parts in time, don't worry. We can come up with the necessary parts for you to participate.

SparkFun will provide all the tools, irons and solder.
