As you more than likely know, Colorado was hit hard by some intense flooding about a week and a half ago. The final toll is still being calculated, but several lives were lost and many, many millions of dollars in damage occurred. Around 2,000 homes were either completely lost or severely damaged and thousands of people have been displaced.

Boulder County, where SparkFun is located, was one of the hardest hit counties so this event certainly hit close to home, both literally and figuratively. SparkFun would like to do our part to help move the recovery forward.

So today, September 23rd, 10% of all sales will be donated to the United Way Foothills Flood Relief Fund. Additionally, friends of SparkFun and local business Elevations Credit Union will match whatever we can raise, dollar for dollar.

So if you've been holding off on a SparkFun purchase for just the right time - pull the trigger today. Thank you!

I had two wish lists of items that I've been keeping around for the past few months for a project I have in mind well down the road. This Donation Day seemed like the perfect time to go ahead and order everything early so the victims of last weeks tragedy could get some small relief.

  • Thank you so much for doing this for the community. Like Pohar, I pulled up an old Wish List - over a year old, in fact - and decided now was the perfect time to buy. I've been helping a friend recover what we could from his home in Lyons. For those outside of Colorado, it's a beautiful little town that was virtually decimated by the recent flooding, and left uninhabitable. Seeing the devastation first-hand is overwhelming and heartbreaking. Thank you to Nathan, and everyone there at Sparkfun, for once again giving back. Your company continues to be an inspiration.

Thank you for bringing this back up in the limelight. I think for many of us we are desensitized by the news. Seeing a local company take action springs more people into action. The flooding pictures you linked to are sobering and tragic. What a nightmare.

Having other expenses to deal with I couldn't justify buying anything today, but my company has a donation matching campaign going on, so I donated to the United Way listed above using my company's matching donation website.

Thank you for caring about your community. Some people just... don't, or would prefer to gain profit from such a tragic event.

It would be great to see a result of what Mondays sales and Elevations Credit Union raised to help out the community.

Thanks for the opportunity to help the affected families. I found it also easy to donate through the United Way link.
