GM862 Evaluation Kit - USB

Replacement: None. We no longer carry the GM862 module. There is no direct replacement for this kit. This page is for reference only.

This is a complete evaluation package for the GM862 cellular/GPS module. This kit comes with a USB GM862 evaluation board and all the antennas and connectors you need to add cellular and GPS capabilities to your project!

The GM862 USB evaluation board not only breaks out all 50 pins of the GM862, but it also handles all the voltage regulation and allows you to communicate with the GM862 using a computer's serial port.

Don't forget to set the GM862 to use the North American frequencies using the **AT#BND=1 ** command.

Why does this board say that Tx is an input and Rx is an output?
Tx is Transmit and Rx is Receive for serial....
Tx on serial device(1) goes to Rx on serial device(2).
Rx on serial device(1) goes to Rx on serial device(2).
    C'mon Spark....

Hi, I've successfully ran this kit powered by USB from my PC. But i'm having trouble to power this kit portably. I tried using usual 9V battery with a battery holder (http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10512) but it turned off after 5 seconds i turned it on. Any idea how to power this kit with battery ? tq

You realize this is more expensive than buying a $180 kit and a $75 usb eval kit.. right?

    Hello
Is there no sim card holder ?

    • Klone38 / about 13 years ago / 1

There is a sim card holder if you look close at the GM862 label you can see a little shape of a sim card next to a little slot on the side where you put it

Dear Sparkfun, I have a question regarding the evaluation board. I can successfully communicate with the board using an USB connection and hyper terminal; however, communicating with Arduino MEGA over the hardware serial port 1 is another question. In the manual it says that for the external communication I need to desolder the TX, RX, DTR, and CTS jumpers. I am not quite sure where they are. Could you please point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I had no problems with this board..
Regestered it to "Rogers Network in Canada" with
a Sim card. Make sure you ask for voice and data.
This is a Good first step in evaluating/learning
GPRS,GSM and GPS with a fair amount of Info. on
    the web....
