Some time ago we got the idea to use the IRC CHAT-protocol for communication of IoT devices. We have named the new protocol of IRC-IoT and use it in our projects. We decided to make the specification open so that others could create compatible devices and projects. You can read more about IRC-IoT protocol on the site irc-iot.org
