Zio Current and Voltage Sensor - INA219 (Qwiic)

The Zio Current and Voltage Sensor is a highly accurate current and power monitor. Utilizing the INA219, it's able to read DC current and power over I2C with up to 1% precision. This is a great fit for a variety of applications, including estimating battery life, tracking solar power generation, or monitoring electricity consumption.

This sensor can measure voltage up to 26VDC and current up to 3.2A. The I2C interface makes it easy to daisy chain multiple devices and receive data via the Qwiic connect system.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This reduces the amount of required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you can’t hook it up wrong.

Secure DIY Garage Door Opener

January 16, 2020

Did you know that most garage doors are at risk of a roll jam attack? Here we make a DIY garage door remote-control system that is much more secure than most commercial-ready products using the latest in ECC cryptography.

Core Skill: Programming

If a board needs code or communicates somehow, you're going to need to know how to program or interface with it. The programming skill is all about communication and code.

2 Programming

Skill Level: Rookie - You will need a better fundamental understand of what code is, and how it works. You will be using beginner-level software and development tools like Arduino. You will be dealing directly with code, but numerous examples and libraries are available. Sensors or shields will communicate with serial or TTL.

Core Skill: Electrical Prototyping

If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.

2 Electrical Prototyping

Skill Level: Rookie - You may be required to know a bit more about the component, such as orientation, or how to hook it up, in addition to power requirements. You will need to understand polarized components.

Very accurate

I got this device to measure the voltage on a lead acid battery. I wanted a simple and accurate device and that is what this product is. It has more features than I needed but if your looking to measure DC voltage easily and accuratly this is your device.

I used this sensor to measure the power output for a small hydroelectric turbine. It was overall very easy to use and very precise. The sensor was easy to integrate with other Qwiic products
