Jumper - 2 Pin

These are two pin jumpers (also called shunts) that will create an electrical connection between two pin headers. Commonly used to modify settings on a board or device. Remember when you had to set an IDE hard drive as 'Master' or 'Slave' on the IDE ribbon? These jumpers were priceless if you sneezed and lost one.

    When we cut down female headers we usually have to pull out one of the pens so we can make a clean cut. Don't throw it away. It's perfect for making 2-pin jumpers. The pin looks like a miniature tuning fork. Straddle the fork across the two pins and solder. Trim excess away after soldering.

      This is mostly an issue of scale. We still have to pay for someone to go get one off a shelf, put it in a bag/box, etc. Not to mention the actual bag/box. If you just need 1 or 2 for a project then grabbing one makes sense. If you need a lot then there are definitely better options for you including Amazon.

    Old ISA and 386/486 motherboards were famous for being packed with jumpers. Whenever throwing one away, I'd always pull the jumpers off. I must have hundreds of them. Good thing too, there's no way I'd ever pay 35 cents for one. Why are these not 2 cents a piece? It's not just SparkFun. I placed an order with Jameco. A transistor is .05 cents, but a jumper is .12? Go figure.

      I know, that's strange...
      They say .35 cents but they show a quarter, that's only .25 cents!
      Don't these silly SparkFun people know what a .35 cent piece looks like?
