Replacement:SWG-11063. We're now selling these notebooks exclusively in the grey page style. This page is for reference only.

Moleskine makes some of the coolest, highest grade paper journals out there. We have collectively over 100 in the building. They even live in our backyard here in Boulder, Colorado! Unfortunately they didn't really want to play ball with us, so we had to create our own journal.

We created a journal that we wanted to use. 52 pages thin, matte black flexible cover, with 1/8" grid on every page. It's light weight, easy to pack, and has just enough pages to record all those crazy ideas.

I'm not sure about you, but we like to travel incognito. The black color is pretty sleek and avoids attention, but there is an embossed SparkFun logo on the front cover in case anyone looks closely.

This journal is one of my Staff Picks. I'm really happy with this journal. We started brainstorming what 'we' wanted as engineers, and I think we got them all: thin, light, non-hardbacked for easier carrying in backpack, grid lines, and not so many pages that it will take me 5 years to fill up (I'll lose it before then!).

Glad to see the price drop for these, but shipping is now more expensive than the book by itself. I'll have to wait until I have a huge order before adding this to my cart.

Could you maybe post a picture of the entire page? are there any headings at the top? are there page numbers? how dark is the grid?.. oh and what part is black if the description says matte red flexible cover :D

I just can't fathom spending 7 bucks on a single notebook when I can go to Walgreens (walking distance from my house) and get one for under a dollar. Just saying... These look great, and I'm sure they're worth it, but they're just too expensive for me...

Just a humble suggestion:
A common practice among the writing equipment geeks, such as penaddict.com, is to post a transcription of the review text using the product being reviewed. Here's an example:

Also is of note that quality can be uneven on the paper, and not always fountain pen or marker friendly (Bleed through, feathering).

Agreed-- Rhodia paper is amazing. Journaling what you are doing (IMHO) becomes significantly easier with good writing materials. Doane also makes a nice pad with great binding, but Rhodia still has better paper.
I'm using an Ampad 22-157, because the paper quality is still great and the binding is awesome. Oversized, numbered pages, too.

Moleskine paper is too thin. You should check out the Rhodia pads.
If you're after lab books, http://www.bookfactory.com or http://www.snco.com/ have good options.

  I'm sort of a minimalist. The references in the back of the Maker book is great, but I really don't need them. Then I get to carry around extra stuff I don't really need? That's why we wanted our own: it's what we use daily.
