Luxeon V LED - Royal Blue 5 Watt

The field proven technology of Luxeon LEDs comes to the SFE masses! This**5Watt LED (yes, 1A peak, 6.8V forward voltage) is bright. So bright, we're afraid to hook one up. 4 times the lumen output of the standard 1Watt Luxeons.
Note: Philips has removed the datasheet for this, so unfortunately we don't have one to offer.

This is very bright. The cutoff wavelength is visible, though, and it does not emit UV. The Luxeon data sheet says as much, and I checked it with a spectrometer to be sure.
It will make you see spots for hours, and it would be disastrous to stare at it. They are dangerously bright!
I mounted mine on the Luxeon star heatsink with thermal grease, then mounted this to an aluminum plate. 5 W will make this get HOT, so you have to heat sink it really well.
Be VERY cautious looking at this LED. It generates a LOT of ultraviolet (UV) light. Prolonged exposure can damage your eyesight. Wear UV protective goggles or glasses when you look at these. They have been rated the same as low power lasers.
I salvaged its datasheet (downloaded from this Sparkfun page on 2-Sep-2009).
