Bluetooth Portable Rotary Phone - Black

The SparkFun original Portable Rotary Phone has been upgraded! With the Blue Rotary we've taken everything people love about the Port-o-Rotary and substituted the cellular module for a Bluetooth® **module. So what's different? You no longer need an activated SIM card to use the phone. This version of the Portable Rotary Phone will work with any cell phone that has support for the Bluetooth® hands-free protocol (iPhone, any phone with Bluetooth® **capability). The Blue Rotary still has a functional rotary dial, rings the original, loud metallic bells when a call is received, and has a dial tone.

Phone comes fully assembled and tested. All you have to do is open the phone and turn the unit on. After turning the phone on, follow the instructions in the Blue Rotary User Guide to connect your bluetooth enabled phone to the Blue Rotary. After connecting to the phone, the Blue Rotary will remember your phone's address and automatically reconnect every time you come within range without requiring any user interaction. The Blue Rotary will work on any cellular plan in the world, as long as your cell phone supports the hands-free protocol.

Each Port-O-Rotary is an original rotary phone that has been specially modified. There may be small scratches and scraps on the exterior, also known as 'character'. The battery can run the phone for 30 hours and is charged by an external jack on the rear of the phone (charger included).

The rocker switch to enable the bluetooth module can be found under the handset, and be sure to charge the phone at least once a day if you have the phone continually on.

**Note: **We've recently encountered issues with this phone not completely working with Blackberry cell phones. It will not dial out via the rotary dial or hang-up properly. This has proven to be true with a Blackberry Storm, and may be the case with other Blackberries. Please be aware of this if you're planning on using the phone with a Blackberry.

    Doesn't work...
    Just got mine a couple of days ago. Charged it overnight, turned it on, realized that the battery wasn't plugged into the board. Plugged it in, charged it again, According to my phone, I am connected to it, but it doesn't have a dial tone when I pick it up and I can't make or receive any calls with it. :(

    While their customer service is flawless and very willing to help, this product is unstable and rarely works right.

    I have owned this product for one month. I am the guy with the most unique toy in the office, and I can't find a single complaint about it. It has a dial tone, it rotary dials, it has a very authentic ring, and the on/off switch is perfecly placed under the cradle.
    I lied, there is one complaint. they could have included instuctions for bluetooth sync in the box. I had to refer to this website.
    Otherwise, I am am the envy of every other nerd at my work. what else is there?

    Boy, I could use some help here. I notice that the picture above says v1, and I just noticed the EAGLE files say v07. I'm on my second board (these components are getting expensive!!) and every time I plug it in to 5V 1A DC the MCP7384 gets super hot until it either melts the board or (on the first board) explodes. I notice a few little subtle differences in the picture and in my board, particularly C12, which appears to be larger...
    I'm at a loss; I assumed I cooked the first board using hot-air soldering, so on my second board I used the soldering iron to mount everything.
    I'd love to get this thing going, but I'm dead stuck.
    I really appreciate you guys "sparking" a bit of excitement in this old guy...

    Is the volume adjustable? I mean, I think the WT32 module can accept a UART input to adjust the volume from 0-9, but do you set this up before you ship it? Is that why you have the pin-outs to TX and RX on the board--so you can set this after assembly?
    I'm excited about this phone!

    Why are you selling this for $250 and selling a full GSM Rotatory phone for 200? Aren't Bluetooth radios cheaper than a full quad-band cellular radio?

    on the "How We Built It" page, you only show how to build the cell phone version - how do you get the dialer to go through bluetooth, so you can dial out from the handset?
    My friend has a really cool 60's "phone in a box" that we'd like to turn into a Bluetooth handset.

      There is a 3.7V 6Amp Hour LiPo battery included with the phone(Takes a while to charge!).

    I think this is the perfect "Lazy Desk Accessory" for executives and the like. They need not take their cell phone out of their belt holster when they get in the office, as this phone is right there! They would just sit at the desk, and when the phone rings, pick up this beautiful masterpiece instead of their cell phone!

    She is a beauty.
    Link to user guide is slightly broken.
    Too bad several Bluetooth phones can't be associated at once (not sure if this is a limitation of the Bluetooth protocol or not). It's still on the top of my wishlist.
