Breakout Board for Smart Cards

Replacement: None. We're no longer selling this breakout board. This page is for reference only.

This is a breakout board for our SMD Smart Card socket. Smart Cards are plastic cards with an embedded chip used to store any data you want. Smart Card applications are limitless; and they're growing increasingly popular, showing up on credit cards and other common identification cards.

A standard credit-card sized plastic card (53.98mm width) should fit snugly into the onboard socket. The socket forms a physical connection with the eight contacts on a Smart Card. See the schematic and datasheet below for pin-out.

All pins of the Smart Card socket are broken out to a 0.1" pitch header.

Just wanted to let you know that smart-cards and SIM cards are the same (other then the plastic on the outside and the data stored) so you can combine this with a $3 SIM writer off of eBay.

Where would I get blank smartcards?

Can I use a header to connect this to my Arduino or do I need to solder wires to each connection?
