Tool Kit - Deluxe

Replacement:TOL-10874. We're switching things up, we've done away with some of the less popular tools and replaced the soldering iron with our SparkFun branded iron! This page is for reference only.

We picked our very best tools and put together the expert's kit. These are absolutely the tools we use on a daily basis. Want to begin making, but don't know what tools you need to start? This kit has what you need!

**Note: **The solder spool in this kit is leaded. We prefer using leaded solder on prototypes or other non-production type things - it's easier to work with (flows better). If you're new to soldering, the leaded solder will make things a bit easier.

Note: The soldering iron is only meant for 110VAC input.

seriously you have got to do tools for 240v it really puts a limit on tools you can buy

Oh boy, this is a high quality kit. I was stuck, before this wonderful kit, with using my father's old tools, and a (begin sarcasm) wonderful (end sarcasm) RadioShack soldering iron with a blunt and broken tip. I now have my own tools, and a really nice (and I mean REALLY DARN NICE) soldering iron. I recommend this to everyone looking to get into electronics.

hey, thank you for the "parts wish list" list! I already have a great soldering station, but I need everything else from that kit, and it is really helpful to have a list. thanks, -k

Great kit! I am a total n00b just getting into this stuff and this kit is a great way to go from absolutely nothing to everything I will ever need. I unpacked the kit tonight and just fixed my broken iClicker. Some component (...again a total n00b) broke loose and I was able to surface mount solder it back in place. I just saved like $60! Thanks Sparkfun.

Despite including leaded solder, this bundle product has the RoHS checkmark applied. What gives?

    Over-priced!

    Hey Sparkfun,
I bought this kit back in Feb/March timeframe. Everything has worked fine, except the iron is beeping more and more. We keep the tip slid all the way in, but it will do this from time to time. When I first assembled it I noticed the conductor end looked a little crooked like it had not formed well during manufacture. It works great, except when it beeps it loses temperature. That is why I thought it was related to the tip having a manufacturing flaw.

All was great except maybe the Third Hand. The magnifying glass wont sit still in even a slight breeze no matter how hard I tighten it. I got a different one than the one pictured here (although if you follow the link that's the one you get). The clips work nicely though just the magnifying glass doesn't play nice at times. Stellar kit though would recommend it to anyone.

The third hand in the picture has a wider base and a light where the one it links to has a smaller base and no light. Which one is included in the tool kit?

I am trying to decide between this and the "Make: Electronics Deluxe Toolkit" over on Maker SHED. I am a total n00b. Can anyone help me to decipher the pros/cons between this kit and the other kit?

    • so by now, I am sure that you have already bought one or the other, however, I hope for your sake you went with the one from Spark Fun. The one over @MakerShed absolutely sucks. yes, this one is more expensive, but totally worth it in the end. Anyone who puts a 25w soldering iron in a "delux" tool kit should be shot on sight.

link for soldering iron points to analog one, not the digital one as in the description

    • The link goes to the analog iron which is correct. The picture shows the digital iron. After checking with our guys in production, they prefer the analog version, so that's the one we include in the tool kit.

Any time frame for this product? It would be very helpful...

    • It's a moving target, always. We are currently waiting on the soldering irons.

unfortunately anyone ready for this kit already has a bunch of the stuff...difficult to justify the investment at that point....
one suggestion: wire wrap tool (the kind that comes with a stripper inside [get your mind out of the gutter]). The included wire strippers are good, but just a headache if your going to use wire wrap wire...and wire wrapping (not just soldering the stuff) is your friend in prototyping...saved my arse many a time.

    • I completely agree. This kit was designed for someone who is either starting from zero, or is buying the tools to get someone started from zero.
I used a wirewrap tool for many years. I find that I use it very little these days (never) so we left it out. But I do use the 30AWG wire to jumper from point to point when there is a trace error.
