About the Photo

This photo is of Leah Buechley, developer of the LilyPad system. In the photo, Leah is wearing the LilyPad Arduino, a wearable e-textile technology. Leah sewed this system into her clothing, and by implementing LEDs directly into her shirt and bracelet, created an amazing display of light and color.

The photo was shot on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, CO. Pearl Street is famous in Colorado for its unique and vibrant atmosphere and was the perfect place to show off Leah's creation.

The photographer was SparkFun Director of Marketing AnnDrea, who was assisted by SparkFun Graphic Designer Lara. The photo was shot using a Canon 1DS Mark II.

About Leah's Project

Essentially, the LilyPad is a microcontroller that can be sewn into any clothing and programmed however the user wants. By hooking the LilyPad to other widgets (such as light sensors, buzzers, and accelerometers), the user can create a dynamic piece of clothing that interacts with the person wearing the clothing and with the environment around them.
