Pay: $80,000 - $90,000 / year

Shift: M-F 9 am - 5 pm

SparkFun's Next Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

The primary role of the Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is to secure and onboard new customers and opportunities in the Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) market. The FAE will combine technical expertise in the field of GNSS and RTK with sales techniques to identify new customers/opportunities to help grow the business. This person will offer technical support to our customers to ensure we identify and propose the best solutions for their needs. This person needs to have a thorough understanding of GNSS and RTK and experience applying these technologies to identify and build solutions.

Essential Job Functions

1. Proactive Sales Outreach:

  • Identify leads/prospect based on a Point of Sale (POS) report and based on experience in the PNT market
  • Follow-up, qualify, and convert leads
  • Develop prospecting list and outreach plans
  • Develop and deliver formal and informal presentations that articulate a compelling value proposition and move accounts to the next steps
  • Develop accurate and compelling quotes and proposals
  • Track leads from qualification to closing utilizing SparkFun’s CRM and ERP

2. Customer Support:

  • Communicate directly with customers, including:
    • Answering technical questions and responding to incoming support inquiries and user comments
    • Gathering information on their wants and needs in the GNSS and RTK markets
    • Offering technical solutions to fit those wants and needs
  • Provide demonstrations and training to customers as needed
  • Maintain a feedback loop to the product design teams about feature sets, customer requirements, problems and potential solutions posed by customers
  • Follow-up with customers after completion of sale to answer questions and further the relationship

3. Product Knowledge:

  • Expand on existing knowledge of GNSS and RTK by working directly with our product lines
    • Learn the ins and outs and capabilities of every GNSS and RTK product we offer
    • Pull a compelling pitch together for the top products
    • Participate in internal and external trainings
  • Demonstrate expert-level understanding of SparkFun’s PNT product offerings
  • Attend conferences as required and bring knowledge back to the team
  • Maintain understanding and expand knowledge of the GNSS market, staying updated on the latest emerging technologies, standards, and trends

4. Documentation:

  • Applications of a project or product, including how-tos and content creation
  • Create and update product spec pages
  • Document use cases and trends in the market


  • Solid understanding of RTK and GNSS technologies
  • Experience in developing, testing, or using GNSS products and solutions, such as receivers, antennas, software, or applications.
  • Experience with a market-based sales approach
  • Experience in a technical sales role
  • Experience supporting customers and providing solutions to customer needs
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft’s Suite of Products as well as Google’s Suite of Products
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
