About the Department & the Team

There’s always something exciting that needs to be built. We need you to help us! A Product Developer at SparkFun is to be at the forefront of getting your hands dirty with the latest and greatest technologies available.

Open Source and its associated community are key values for SparkFun, and a key part of all our software efforts. All embedded software is open source and community driven. SparkFun developed technology is given back to the community through updates or complete open source projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Designing schematics and layouts in Eagle PCB for specified products
  • Writing code (C, C++, Python) to run and test products
  • Writing Arduino, Python, and Raspberry Pi libraries to support the products
  • Documenting how to use or assemble a project or product
  • Assembling and processing batches of products (yes, you will get your hands dirty)
  • Manage all source control via Github
  • Monitoring and handling user comments on products

In order to succeed we’re going to need to know you can hit the ground running. During your interview, you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Assembly, C, C++, Python
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pointers, type casting, and linker scripts
  • Demonstrate the creation of Arduino libraries.
  • Demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for electronic projects including multiple examples of failures.
  • Demonstrate your proficiency (be fast) at Eagle.
  • Demonstrate your ability to write and communicate effectively enough to make someone excited to use the latest technical product.
