SparkFun's Next Marketing Outreach Coordinator

Ultimately, the Marketing Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing outreach to external partners (including distributors, e-commerce customers, and 3rd party content contributors), collaborating with various internal stakeholders, and implementing product promotions. Additionally, this role will aid the Marketing Communications team with all aspects of event management. To succeed in this role requires substantial cross-departmental collaboration; a deep understanding (and ability to articulate) various customers we serve; excellent project management and follow-through skills; excellent business communication skills; ability to develop written content; and data collection, interpretation, and reporting.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Execute Promotion Campaigns
    • Execute campaigns and promos based on key products, initiatives, high-level calendars developed by Marketing managers
    • Maintain and share annual and quarterly activity calendar
    • Develop campaign, promo, and project briefs in collaboration with Marketing managers
    • Coordinate campaigns, promos, and projects for all internal- and external-facing stakeholders. This includes, but is not limited to:
      • Generate initial messaging/copy for emails, social, pr, blog, print materials, pillar pages, ads, and so forth
      • Run queries to generate opt-in email lists (and other lists as needed)
      • Coordinate operational efforts (inventory, finance, shipping, website, demand); participate in S&OP demand planning
      • Facilitate approvals from Finance, Data, and leadership, as needed
      • Serve as team expert on promotional/discount tools and tactics
    • Monitor and provide quick-glance reports to communicate campaign, promo, and project effectiveness
  2. Implement Co-Marketing Plans with Distributor/Channel and B2B Partners
    • Collaborate with Sales to identify targets for both distributor and B2B account collaborations
    • Define our value proposition and positioning points that resonate with these groups
    • Distributor: Work with partners to develop customized assets and plans for co-marketing efforts; may include supplier campaigns, funded custom development, content development, contests, events, or other marketing activities; as relevant, work with Supplier Marketing.
    • B2B: Identify strategic accounts to capture and share use cases and develop co-marketing plans to share the story; leverage MDF funds to support outreach efforts on behalf of accounts, particularly Services accounts
    • Collaborate with partners to create Use Case articles for publication on
    • Support sales and marketing conversations with partners to ensure marketing obligations are completed
  3. Events/Conferences (face-to-face and digital)
    • Proofread copy for clarity, SEO and consistency of brand voice to ensure that communications sync across all channels
    • Develop strategy for event and conference participation
    • Build and maintain calendar of events and conferences
    • Coordinate and support all aspects of event/conference participation - before, during, and post conference
    • Develop promotional and marketing collateral to support events/conferences; manage library of materials; coordinate demos as needed
    • Provide timely summary of event outcomes
  4. Other Marketing Communications Responsibilities
    • Serve as “backup” for other marketing team members when they are out
    • From time to time, aid in the development, scheduling and monitoring of newsletter and email campaigns
    • Develop a deep understanding of SparkFun’s audience and the messaging that resonates with them; build knowledge of SparkFun products
    • Develop goals/KPIs for digital/social with Marketing Communications Supervisor - monitor and report out on progress toward goals
    • Assist with influencers, brand ambassador, and outside content creator management and outreach

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years B2B marketing and communications
  • Deep knowledge of promotional tactics used across industries
  • Obsession with finding the best deals online
  • Understanding of the embedded electronics space
  • Fearless ability to communicate verbally and in writing to nearly anyone
  • Excellent project management and follow up skills
  • Consistently and proactively building knowledge base in the area of marketing, ecommerce, branding, and embedded electronics (and the community we serve)
  • Ability to translate complex information or data into easy-to-understand, succinct visuals and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the SparkFun brand/voice
  • Understanding and experience in the embedded electronics or prototyping space
  • 1-3 years coordinating all aspects of various events including: webinars, conference booths, etc..
