From Thursday, July 24th 12:01 a.m. MT until Thursday, July 31st 11:59 p.m. MT we’re offering the Data Dozen - a hand-picked selection of products to use with the new SparkFun Data Channel!

SparkFun Data Channel

These products are marked down 15% for this limited time. Get yours while supplies last (backorders are not allowed). Distributor accounts are not eligible for this sale - sorry!

If you’re not sure where to get started, check out our tutorial - “Pushing Data to Data.SparkFun.Com” - to learn how to start pushing data like a pro! Now on to the products…

Electic Imp - Was $29.95, now $25.46

We know what you’re thinking, “What’s the big deal? Looks like an SD card…” Well this is no SD card! The Electric Imp is a WiFi enabled development platform powered by a Cortex-M3 processor core. “Really?” Yup.

In essence, the Imp provides an easy, integrated way to connect almost any hardware device both to other devices and to internet services. It’s more than just a WiFi card, or even a WiFi module with processing built in - it’s an integrated platform that deals with the drudgery of connectivity, allowing you to concentrate on the application instead of the mechanics.

Electric Imp Shield - Was $19.95, now $16.96

The shield connects one of the imp’s UARTs (Imp pins 5 and 7) to either the Arduino hardware UART or a software serial on pins 8 and 9. It defaults to the software serial, but there are jumpers on the bottom side to set it to the hardware serial. A couple imp pins (8 & 9) are also connected to LEDs. They can be disconnected via jumpers on the bottom, if you’d like.

CC3000 WiFi Shield - Was $39.95, now $33.96

This is a shield for the CC3000 WiFi Module. The CC3000 from TI (Texas Instruments) is a self-contained wireless network processor that makes incorporating internet connectivity into your project simple. Instead of the more standard UART communication method, the CC3000 module utilizes an SPI interface allowing you, the user, to control the flow of data as you please. What makes the CC3000 unique is its ability to associate to a WiFi access point using a cell phone app in the Texas Instruments process called SmartConfig.

CC3000 WiFi Breakout - Was $34.95, now $29.71

This is similar to above, but a breakout board version for the CC3000 WiFi Module.

RN-XV WiFly Module - Was $34.95, now $29.71

The RN-XV module by Roving Networks is a certified Wi-Fi solution especially designed for customer who want to migrate their existing 802.15.4 architecture to a standard TCP/IP based platform without having to redesign their existing hardware. In other words, if your project is set up for XBee and you want to move it to a standard WiFi network, you can drop this in the same socket without any other new hardware.

Weather Shield - Was $39.95, now $33.96

The Weather Shield is an easy to use Arduino shield that grants you access to barometric pressure, relative humidity, luminosity and temperature. There are also connections on this shield to optional sensors such as wind speed, direction, rain gauge and GPS for location and super accurate timing.

Vernier Sensor Photogate - Was $44.95, now $38.21

This is the Vernier Photogate, a new take on the traditional photogate. By emitting a beam of infrared light from one upright to the other, the Photogate can detect when an object passes between the upright gates, breaking the beam. Not only can this Photogate detect objects moving through the interior of itself but also outside by means of a “laser gate”. Simply close a mechanical shutter to block the internal IR gate and shine a laser pen (not included) into the laser gate hole found on the thinner gate arm.

Digital Temperature Sensor Breakout - Was $5.95, now $5.06

This is a breakout board for the incredibly small TMP102 digital temperature sensor. The TMP102 is a digital sensor (I2C a.k.a. TWI), has a resolution of 0.0625°C, and is accurate up to 0.5°C. This is a very handy sensor that requires a very low-current.

Infrared Temperature Breakout - Was $14.95, now $12.71

This is not your typical temperature sensor. The TMP006 Breakout can measure the temperature of an object without making contact with it. By using a thermopile to detect and absorb the infrared energy an object is emitting, the TMP006 Breakout can determine how hot or cold the object is.

Polar Heart Rate Monitor Interface - Was $59.95, now $50.96

This is the wonderful Polar Heart Rate evaluation board cooperatively designed by danjuliodesigns and SparkFun. The Heart Rate Monitor Interface (HRMI) is an intelligent peripheral device that converts the ECG signal from the Polar Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) into easy-to-use heart rate data. It implements a sophisticated algorithm for computing an average heart rate even with noisy or intermittent data from the transmitter.

RFID Starter Kit - Was $49.95, now $42.46

The RFID Starter Kit includes everything you need to get going with RFID. It includes a USB RFID board, ID-12LA RFID reader, and 2 RFID cards.

Ambient Light Sensor Breakout - Was $4.95, now $4.21

Basic breakout board for the TEMT6000 Ambient Light Sensor. Only what you need, nothing you don’t. Sensor acts like a transistor - the greater the incoming light, the higher the analog voltage on the signal pin.

If you want to explore using the SparkFun Data Channel, these products are great components to use in data-centric projects.
