Guidelines for Law Enforcement

These guidelines are intended for law enforcement personnel seeking to request information about SparkFun customers or customer orders.

What is SparkFun?

SparkFun is a manufacturer and reseller of electronics. We sell various electronic products that can be assembled to create different types of projects and end-user products.

Data Retention

SparkFun retains different types of information for different time periods. SparkFun does not retain IP address information for more than 60 days and, in accordance with PCI Compliance requirements, SparkFun does not retain detailed credit card information.

Public User Information

User information is held by SparkFun in accordance with our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions of Sale. We require a subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process to disclose information about our users.

Some user profile information is public such as various comments the user has posted, an optional profile image, an alias, and some optional biographical information. Public profile information is provided at the user's discretion. That information is not verified by SparkFun and may be inaccurate.

Private User Information

In accordance with our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions of Sale, private information about SparkFun users is not released except as lawfully required by appropriate legal process.

Requests for User Information

SparkFun is located in Niwot, Colorado, and will only respond in compliance with U.S. law to valid legal process.
SparkFun will accept legal process from law enforcement personnel via hand delivery, fax, at 1- 303-443-0048 (Attn: HQ/Admin & Legal), or via mail at the following location:

SparkFun does not accept legal process via e-mail and acceptance of legal process by these means does not waive any objections, including the lack of jurisdiction or proper service.

Requests From Non-U.S. Law Enforcement

U.S. law authorizes SparkFun to respond to requests for user information from foreign law enforcement agencies that are issued via U.S. court either by way of a mutual legal assistance treaty or a letter rogatory. It is our policy to respond to such U.S. court ordered requests.

Notification to Users

SparkFun's policy is to notify users of requests for their information prior to disclosure unless we are prohibited from doing so by statute or court order.

Information Required Upon Request

When requesting information, your request must include:
• The customer name and any products in question
• Details about the specific information being requested and the relationship to the investigation
• A valid e-mail address so SparkFun may respond upon receipt of your legal process.
