USB Cable B to Mini-B - 6 Foot

Replacement: None. These had been a mis-ship and never were very useful. This page is for reference only.

This is a peculiar cable. Look carefully at the ends and you'll see why. One end is terminated with a USB-B connector while the other end has a USB mini-B connector. Why would anyone ever want a B to B USB cable? We asked ourselves the same thing. Unfortunately, this was a mis-ship that we can't send back, so we're stuck with this odd cable.

The good news is that it can still be useful. If you cut this cable in half, you would get two USB pigtail cables (one USB-B and one USB mini-B). We don't actually sell any bare-wire USB cables, so we're sure someone could use these. They are priced to move and we won't be ordering any more of these, so get them while they last.

    how do you order something like this do you just tell the manufacturer you want a 1000 of these B to mini B or did you just tell them this and they misunderstood? I mean that just doesn't make any sense to me... What were you trying to order?

    Entertainingly this is exactly the cable I'm interested in finding. Why shouldn't this exist? I'm making a USB pass-through device. The input port (PC to Device) makes total sense to be USB B. The downstream devices are likely to accept the usual micro B or mini B. I'd love to use matching B ports on the pass through device, but of course most cables are A to mini/micro, so different plugs it is. Ah well, aesthetics can't win over utility.

    You can also use this to hook a OTG device to a hub that has a regular B connector on it... I'm sure many of this bunch happens to have a 2.0 hub with one of the "old style" connectors on it.

    The n800 can control an arduino (OR OTHER MCU BEFORE FLAMING STARTS) there are guides all over the place, nokia n800+python+MCU+wheels=robot...

    I have actually made a similar "non-standard" cable before. It was used to program and then test a device using a USB-OTG chip where during programming it acted as a device and during test it acted as a host. The cable I made gave us the ability to treat it either way depending on whether we connected it to a PC (as a device) or to a printer (as a host to drive the printer). If you go to staples and see little silver boxes next to a certain brand of printers that says "press here for a print sample" you'll see the device I am talking about.

    I have a Linksys wireless adapter that uses an USB A to USB A cable. I always wondered what were they thinking?

      USB A to A? That's a pretty dangerous thing to give someone - if they connected two PCs together, they could blow up the USB controller on one or both of them.

        That's what I thought too. I was also worried it may try to power the entire 5V bus on one of the computers if the other was off. (I've seen USB cards that don't have fuses.)

    Actually, if you wanted to attach an older USB hub to a Nokia N800, this would work okay. A lot of them have full-sized B jacks on them. Same goes for some "docking stations" and the like, or older USB hard-disk enclosures.

    I was gonna say, do they have printer drivers for OS2008? My N800 could use it to print. Otherwise, I agree, their most frequent use in my own toolbag would be for custom cables.

      I haven't tried it (only have an N900) but cups runs in a debian chroot just fine.

    Actually these coule be useful for some applications - especially with the new ability to rewrite the USB controller on the Arduino Uno (with a B connector on it), you could you this cable to interface with mini-B devices

    Where'd you get these? If it were a micro-b plug on the small end this would be perfect for using with my N900 for printing and the like.
