Description: The LilyPad SimpleSnap is a new, easy way to create e-textiles projects with LilyPad that are modular and can be disassembled or broken down, it’s also a great way to prototype! The SimpleSnap board is similar to the LilyPad Simple board, and has the same functionality except for two major differences: A built-in rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery and female snap connectors. By adding fabric snaps to the board, LilyPad’s made it possible to connect this board to the SimpleSnap Protoboard or simply an arrangement of sew-on fabric snaps so that the board is removable from your project for washing or so that multiple projects can share a board! It is important, though, that you do not wash the SimpleSnap because the battery can be damaged.

The on-board Lithium Polymer battery can be charged simply by attaching an FTDI breakout (the same board used for programming) and just like the Simple, the SimpleSnap can be programmed in Arduino!

LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads to allow them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and sensor boards are available. They’re even washable!

Note: A portion of this sale is given back to Dr. Leah Buechley for continued development and education of e-textiles and also to Arduino LLC to help fund continued development of new tools and new IDE features.

Note: This item may take longer to process due to battery installed in the equipment and therefore does not qualify for same-day shipping policy. Additionally, these batteries can not be shipped via Ground or Economy methods to Alaska or Hawaii. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Customer Comments

  • You should really binge the couple dollars on having the male half of the snaps come with this. I realize you sell a protoboard that would make included-other-half snaps redundant, but that is FAR more acceptable than selling a board with only one half of the snaps.

I get why they might not be necessary, but it just seems like an overly cheap move to not include the entire snap when you order this board.

  • I wish they had also done this to things like the NeoPixel rings and whatnot…

  • Hi There, Does this microcontroller have an output voltage?

    Thank you

    • There are connection points where you can tap into the battery voltage, which is usually around 3.7V.

  • What size snaps would I need to pick up from the fabric store?

    • These should mate with a 1/0 snap off the shelf. You should know, though- we’ve been learning in the process of making and revising these that snap sizing isn’t as perfectly standardized as we expected. You can always expect that the snaps we carry will fit, because those are the same stock we use to make the board re-packaged for separate sale.

  • Exactly what I needed! Any idea what kind of battery life I might get out of this? Or charging time?

    • Sleep most of the time! and consuming power for a fraction of a millisecond when woken up just to do the job and again sleeping!

I’m a low power specialist designing low power commercial wearable’s.

    • Depends entirely what you’re using it for, I’m afraid.

  • Nice Proof Quarter! Will there be easy extension wires for this coming out?
