MSP-JTAG Parallel Port Programmer

Replacement: None. We are no longer carrying this programmer. This page is for reference only.

MSP430-JTAG connects via the LPT parallel port and works with Texas Instrument's IAR KickStart software and the free MSP GCC software. KickStart will also allow you to write and debug code in assembly language without any limitations and to write code in C with 2K limit for all MSP430.

Note: We found these in inventory and they work fine but we're no longer stocking them. We'll be selling them at a discount for a limited time but when they're gone, they're gone!

Software:

  • MSP430 Kick Start C compiler and debugger (free for assembly language, limited for C)
  • MSPGCC - free C compiler and debugger
  • Programs all MSP430Fxxx Flash Microcontrollers (note: parallel port JTAG doesn't support Spy-Bi-Wire devices as timing from parallel port can't meet programming specs)
  • Uses the TI standard 2x7 pin JTAG connector
  • No need for external programming power supply, all power is taken from the LPT port
  • Compatible with IAR Kickstart software for programming, real time emulation, debugging, step by step program execution, breakpoints, memory dump, etc. Equal in every way to high priced emulators.
  • 2K limit with the IAR Kickstart C compiler. No code limit under the assembler
  • Works with the free open source GCC C compiler and Insight MSP430 toolchain and debugger
  • 50x40 mm (2x1.6") + 20 cm (8") cable

What good is this anyways? My 5 year old computer doesn't have a parallel port much less my current notebook. Anyone have any suggestions on how I get a parallel port for this cable on Windows 7?

How long will this be on backorder? If you can't supply it, is it possible to get schematics on how to build one?

    Hi!
    Will it program MSP430F2471 ?
It is not in the supported list from datasheet, but it's still a JTAG, right?
