Polymer Lithium Ion Battery - 1000mAh

These are very slim, extremely light weight batteries based on the new Polymer Lithium Ion chemistry. This is the highest energy density currently in production. Each cell outputs a nominal 3.7V at 1000mAh! Comes terminated with a standard 2-pin JST-PH connector - 2mm spacing between pins. These batteries require special charging. Do not attempt to charge these with anything but a specialized Lithium Polymer charger.

Battery includes built-in protection against over voltage, over current, and minimum voltage. Please use caution when using this battery in wearable projects. When using conductive thread, a short in the thread can create sparks and heat. We recommend using coin cell batteries for beginners.

Note: Due to the requirements of shipping these batteries, only two batteries can be shipped together at one time and orders may take longer to process and therefore do not qualify for same-day shipping. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Note: Although these cells are rated for 2C continuous discharge, the wiring and connectors are only rated up to 1A, so be sure to take that into account when determining your power requirements.

Note: Be careful with the JST connectors. They can stick in pretty good and tugging on them can damage the connector. Check this tutorial for an easy way to remove them safely.

Great for replacing dead PS3 controller batteries. Just reverse the polarity on the jst plug. Its a bit thicker than the original ps3 battery though, but it still goes back together nicely.

I want to replace a busted 1500MAh battery in my JLab Crasher Bluetooth speaker. The charging circuit is getting really really hot, leading me to believe the battery is bad. This battery is the correct size, but I want a bit more juice than just 1000MAh. Can I solder two or three of these together in parallel without them blowing up? I am not very versed in LiPo batteries... Thanks!

i need 11.1- 13 volts for powering a model train. would i be able to pair 2 of these batteries together somehow??

    • NightEule5 / about 9 years ago / 1

Well, you could wire them in series to get about 7.4v at 1000mAH (I think). That wouldn't be enough voltage though. Now, if you wired 3 in series you would get 11.1v at 1000mAH. Just don't charge them in series.

FYI these do fit inside iPod classic 3g's if you replace the hard drive with an SD card. The runtime becomes something like 10-11 hours, really nice.

Whats the best way mount these in an enclosure? Double Sided Tape? Is there holder of some sort available?

  • Member #226567 / about 10 years ago / 1

Any reason why these are limited to 2 per customer?

    • Kamiquasi / about 10 years ago / 2

It's a shipping regulations thing. E.g. UPS: http://www.ups.com/media/news/en/intl_lithium_battery_regulations.pdf . Per their flowchart, if you got 3 of these together, that's 3Wh, and more than 2 batteries, thus requiring 'a UPS Dangerous Goods contract'.

Other shippers are subject to the same regulations.

Edit: Oh, and if your question was more fundamental: It's because people freak out about the energy density of these things together stuck in a truck/train/plane on the off chance that things go fizz, pop, boom.

      • JohnathanN. / about 9 years ago / 1

So is it 2 per order or 2 per customer end of story? Could I put in 3 orders of 2 and get 6?

        • M-Short / about 9 years ago / 2

Yes, it is 2 per order, you can place as many orders of 2 as you'd like. It is a shipping thing so no outgoing shipment can have more than 2. It is a pain and we are working on fixing it.

I used this battery to replace the weak battery on my FiiO E17 amplifier. Soldered the leads the board and the battery last longer than the alleged 1500mAh battery that the E17 came with. Awesome battery!

  • Member #194022 / about 12 years ago / 1

Does anyone know a good/tight enclosure that fits this well? I've been using little plastic hammond enclosures but this is too big for one size and too small for another size.

This is pretty perfect, but they don't sell it on it's own. http://www.x-io.co.uk/node/13

Hey guys! I want to use this along with the LiPo charger/booster in my RGB LED mixer project. Would 1000mAh be sufficient for a decent runtime? Also could I have the board running from the USB charging connection while it's charging the battery? Thanks!

  • any idea when you guys will get more?

What should I use to power a lilypad that is attached to find tiny patches of conductive fabric?

  • PalmTreesandPICs / about 13 years ago / 1

Instead of using this, for prototyping purposes the Nokia BL-5C Li-Ion(3.7 @ ~1000mAh) works great with the Sparkfun lipo basic charger...
Not that there is anything bad about this product, but i am sure that like me, a bunch of you have plenty old nokia phones laying around. (im sure other phone brands work too)
Just saying, its not a bad idea to repurpose those batteries instead of letting them leak in a dump. They dont weigh that much and are very slim also, possibly even smaller actually.
I soldered a JST connector to the pads on the battery effortlessly, and as a bonus those batteries have a 3rd pad on them that may provide some useful batteri information to your target system.
hope this helps some of you...
I love Sparkfun and im not trying to take buisness away from you... but i love my planet more, not that i am vegetarian or anything.

    • PalmTreesandPICs / about 13 years ago / 1

oh... and one more thing.... (i know its alreay a long post).... said nokia batteries are cheaper and cheaper every day... as more people move to smartphones (alot of them with internal batteries) retail stores a left with old-New stock of these.
Here in Panama, i can find them for as little as 3 bucks, not a bad deal!

Can I charge this with the "LiPo Charger Basic - Mini-USB" (sku: PRT-10401) http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10401 ??
It says "2C continuous discharge" is it ok to use it in a circuit that only needs 400mA?? As far as I can tell it is ok.
    -Tim

    • NightEule5 / about 9 years ago / 1

I'm probably a bit late, but yes, that charger will work. It charges the battery at 500mA, so for this battery it would be charged in 2 hours.

To answer you second question, yes, that would probably be ok. As far as I can tell, 2C continuous discharge (or 2 times Capacity) just means that it can discharge at 2 x (1000mA). This means you can draw 2000mA of current from it, if you had the right connectors (the connector and wire is only rated to 1A). I don't know if I'm getting that right though.

what's with the ASCII version of the picture?

  • DO NOT DROP onto sharp objects. A little project with one of these that I was making just fell of the table and impacted the sharp edge and made quite a spark (and not a fun one). Fortunately everything still works, including the battery despite the punctured shell.

I am trying to recharge my "Polymer Lithium Ion Battery - 1000mAh" with the "LiPoly Charger - Single Cell 3.7-7V Input" using the USB port. So far the charger doesn't seem to do anything since the "status" LED is off and the voltage across BAT and GND terminals is at 1.1V.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    Hi,
I got this battery and hooked it up with the charger card w/Solar Panel and connected to minty boost. From Minty Boost is the Arduino attached to Piano kit on one side and a circuit to convert 5V-9V on the other side which powers the amp. Can't keep the thing charged. Works great as long as I'm in the sun. 2000mAh battery ? So it can provide power to the amp and the Arduino board & piano insert ?
    Thx!!!

Is this battery compatible with the MCP73861 Charger IC? (or I guess the other way around) If so, Would I need to get the MCP73861 or MCP73863 for coke or graphite anodes respectively.
Lastly, Is there anything better to use than this chip to charge this battery?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

  • tetsujin / about 14 years ago / 1

What's up with the dimensions of this thing? The specs say it's 53mm x 33mm, but from the scale reference photos it looks more like 26mm x 16mm... That's a big discrepancy!

    • Hi,
Thanks for pointing this out. That is an interesting mistake. I think the photos for a different battery may have been used on this product. I will submit this for a correction, and we will get the proper specs posted up. I would trust the description over the photo until we get a definitive measurement.
      Thanks,

I'l have another go. i found that the programme seemed to run on the micro however there was not enough power to allow the UART to transmit to my laptop

    • YellowFlower / about 14 years ago / 1

The Batteries measured 3.95V. I charged them anyway and the 1000 mAh works great. the 100 maH doesn't quite have the discharge rating and the UART transmissions are all garbbled.

      • I find this hard to believe as well. I have used a ~800mAh lipo that powered an Arduino, an accelerometer, a small servo, 6 LED's, 3 other sensors, and some other junk, and the battery only needed an initial charge and hasn't been recharged for months. It's not always on, but has plenty of power for multiple hours. Can you measure the current draw on your system?

  • YellowFlower / about 14 years ago / 1

    I tried to run this battery to power a ATmega328 10MHz an ADXL345, a IXZ500 and a microSD card.
i doesn't seem to have enough juice to do this. would the 2000 mah be better? I don't really understand the C5 discharge variable in the datasheet

    • Really? 3.7V with a regulator to 3.3V should very adequately run those components. Actually, 1000mAh should run that system for multiple days. Your system probably uses ~30mA (depends heavily on what you're doing but let's assume).
      1000mAh / 30mA = 33.3hrs.
Have you charged the battery? What voltage do you see on the battery terminals when it's disconnected? Anything less than 3.6V means it's pretty low on charge.

  • NXTreme / about 14 years ago / 1

I want to have a aprox. 6V rechargeable power supply for my "spy" robot. All of the Polymer Lithium Ion batteries that SparkFun sells are only 3.7V, all parallel, no batteries in series. Would it be alright to connect two or three of these packs in series? The tutorial https://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/tutorial_info.php?tutorials_id=129 uses two of these batteries in series so I'm assuming that no harm will come if I do hook these up that way. Thanks.

    • Yes, it would work. As far as a boost regulator goes, you should check out this one.

    • ThinkerT / about 13 years ago / 1

Yeah, that'd work. I'm doing the same kind of thing (a little robot car) and need high amps.
You might also want to look for the step up chip on here. I think it looks good.

  • DBaron / about 14 years ago / 1

Is a specification sheet available for the protection circuit? Especially for the voltage and over-current thresholds.

  • LucasV / about 15 years ago / 1

I was troubleshooting a prototype and shorted this battery. The current cut off instantly. Checked it with a meter and no juice is coming out of the battery, even though it had plenty of power.
I assume I triggered some safety fuse, but is there any way to reset it or did I just ruin the battery?

    • Liencouer / about 14 years ago / 1

That is the protection circuit. Typically you either need to release the load (just unplug the battery) or charge the battery for a second to get it should let go.

  • Lynne / about 15 years ago / 1

jst connector is very tight. Have to pull it out of charger board as well as LiPower board with needle nose pliers. Eventually this will fail and need a new jst.

  • Dragonos / about 16 years ago / 1

I ordered this battery it it is good at doing what it does.
My only concern is that the jst connector was ruined when I connected it to the li-po charger. Also it was a bit scratched up when It arrived.
Overall it is a great buy.

    • Lorella / about 15 years ago / 1

      Hi Dragonos,
Are you talking about this battery : LiPoly Charger - Single Cell 3.7-7V Input?

Solid well performing battery

I bought two of these to use with a batch of Qduino Minis. After letting it charge, I was able to run the Qduino for five days off of the battery! I never really noticed any heat issues or anything like that. Purchasing two at a time kind of stinks, but I plan to get more.

Battery meets my expectations. Working fine.

Battery fine. I forgot that LiPo battery delivery has restrictions that increase cost and delay. I guess this is a fact I need to live with.

Battery Works with Intel Edison

Connected this battery to my Edison mini-breakout board. The header is a tight fit and the holes are almost a too wide but applying a little pressure it will fit.

Perfect replacement for a bluetooth GPS I own

My Bluetooth GPS lives in the car, therefore the battery dies a horrible death every 3 years or so, and this battery is a great replacement for it, never had any problems with it and runtime seems just fine.

Works fine.

Been using these for a couple of weeks and don't have any issues to report. They charge up quick and have been running my photons for the better part of a day when unplugged. I haven't done any formal testing to verify its claims, but just from my observation its working just fine.

ROCK ON!

Ordered this to fit dimensionally in a space that had a 280mAh LiP cell . My dashboard camera/Backup camera rig now operates 14 hours without getting power from the car. Ar$eholes BEWARE! Big Brother is watching!!!

Tee Hee Hee

Thus far awesome.

I haven't tested the under voltage protection, but it's a great idea. The price is comparable to other retailers. I'm not sure why they are always so high.

nice battery

this battery is delivering the power I need in a small package. still in the early prototype stage but I think it is going to be the production package.

Wow !! such a superfast delivery

Ordered two of these to use in a "Lost Model Tracker" receiver and transmitter both with "LoRa" modules (Long Range 433 MHz). What great customer service - ordered Wed. Packed and shipped Wed. (UPS Worldwide Express Saver) and I received them on Friday.

All the way from Colorado USA to Mid-Wales UK and superbly packed as well.
