Can someone tell if I can use this module without a microcontroller. I want to use it as an adapter with the ID-12 rfid reader(TTL output ) , so that i send the data from the reader directly to a PDA.
Thanks in advance

WRL-08461 has figures show it is using BGB203; and so is its description. BUT the schematic showed it's actually a RN41SMD which is a different product from Roving Network. wrl-08550 is another product that actually uses RN41. This is really confusing because I don't know which one is for which. It would be nice if sparkfun just include a pinout in this page.

First off here is a very useful link: This is the user guide for the Philips BGB203
http://www.robotshop.ca/PDF/BGB203_SPP_UserGuide.pdf

SL: _There is more documentation under this part WRL-08461. It's basically the SMD mounted on a breakout board. The breakout board has all of the pins listed.

_

Great addition. Thank you for mentioning that

ROBOSTEAL: Caution: the dimensional drawing linked on this page as of 2009.5.9 does NOT reflect the parts shipped by SparkFun.

The part has not changed nor been modified. I apologize that you may be experiencing issues with your foot print. However I would recommend contacting Sparkfun Technical Support prior to posting up a disclaimer.
Neither the part or documentation have been modified. Hope this helps you guys out.
Thanks!

The Dimensional has a nice picture but doesn't label the pads and the Schematic has a nice schematic but doesn't show me physically which pins are which. What to do... There are 24 pads along the sides, but the Schematic shows pads up to 29 - probably those extra pads not along the sides. Still no clue which goes where, tho. I suppose the schematic showing "FP" means something like Flat Pack where I could dereference those numbers? Gosh, still puzzled... I wish I could read a good old fashioned data sheet for this module.

Note that the connectors down the edge seem to be more like 47mil pitch, rather than the 45mil stated in the the dimensional document above.
Now just need to work out how to change baud rate...
