Off-Road Wheels - 120x60mm (2 pack)

At 120mm in diameter and 60mm wide, these are some seriously burly little wheels. The tire is soft black rubber with deep tread and spikes for added traction in rugged terrain. An adapter is included which bolts to the back of the hub and easily mounts to any motor with a 4mm output shaft. We're selling these wheels in pairs.

Note: These tires are large and have a lot of grip to them. Because of this, you will need some relatively powerful motors to drive them well.

      These wheels were originally designed for use on Wild Thumper 6WD chassis, so they work well with the Wild Thumper motors, which are available individually and in a variety of gear ratios here.
      The ideal motor for your project will depend on what kind of torque and speed you need. The ones used on the Wild Thumpers are the high-power (HP) 34:1 and 75:1 25D gearmotors. All the gearmotors in that category have 4mm output shafts that fit the adapters that come with this wheel.

    I can't say I'm very impressed with these. The tire itself is a very thin rubber (thinner than a bike tire tube) and is filled with foam to give it what little support it has. The hub is a brittle plastic that has been covered in a metallic coating. This tire would only work for lighter robots. For $15, it was worth a gamble, but just be aware that these things can't handle very heavy loads.

    That said, here is a tech spec you don't find in the description - the hub uses a 12mm hex tire mount. There are other companies that will sell 3mm and 6mm converters to fit this tire and others (at the time of this post, Sparkfun doesn't sell these). Just google "6mm shaft to 12mm hex" and you will find what you need.

    can use 3mm shaft in these product???? because i have a motor metal gear with 3mm shaft

    • not well. they have a 4mm hole with a set screw, so it would be off-centered.

    I would be really helpful to get some speed data when these are mounted on the rover 5 platform

    • We didn't have a big enough battery to get the rover working well with them. Plus, how you drive the motors, how much voltage you provide the motors, and other factors will change this.
