AVR STK Parallel Port Dongle Programmer

Replacement: None. We do not have a direct replacement for this programmer. Check here for our other AVR programmers. We retired this product due to slow sales. This page is for reference only.

AVR-PG2B is a programmer based on Atmel's AVR ISP parallel port design. It takes the power supply from target board. The connector is 2x5 pin with 0.1" step and Atmel STKxxx compatible layout.

    Parallel ports are not as common as they used to be. The parts list for the tutorial should be updated to reflect this.

      some newer computers have the ports, though not on the I/O panel, instead you need a breakout ribbon for a back panel connector

    hey guys can anyone confirm if this cable with work with the avrstudio software? and i'll be using it with atmega32.

    I must agree that these are unreliable. Sometimes it programs, sometimes it doesn't. I received a AVRISP MKII today and it programmed perfectly the first time. Not to mention that I don't have to crawl behind my comp anymore.

    Sorry Sparkfun but I just can't recommend this product. I tried everything to no avail, bought an AVRISP mkII and it worked flawlessly first time :)

    Pin 5 IS connected. I opened up my programmer and it IS connected on the board. You also have to pull the reset high during programming.
    My programmer seems to be dead on arrival as I get nothing out of the SCK MOSI MISO lines. I will be making a different one today to see if it this programmer truly is crappy.

    Looking at the schematic, it appears that pin 5 of the isp connector (reset) is left unconnected. Does that mean that I just need to pull the reset line on my avr high?

    Extremely easy to get started with! I'm a newcomer to AVR programming and got this working in no time. Works well with avrdude.
