  • Laura Mappin and I created a similar class a while back, “RoboBunny”. Students would gut a stuffed animal, add a 3rd party arduino board, a shield board I designed, put it all together, and “bunny” would recognize being held, or crushed, flash it’s eyes, play songs, and go to sleep after a period of not being played with.

I’ve since added an IR receiver and transmitter and servo “ports”. Don’t have any behaviors for the servos yet, perhaps something like Becky Stern’s scorpion perhaps? I figure the IR receiver will be used to troll folks. Watch what buttons people press on their remotes, and then randomly replay them later. “Now why does my TV keep changing stations!!!!”.

Funny thing was, even though we called it RoboBunny, we almost never handed out stuffed bunnies. No one ever commented on that ;->

  • avrisp mkii is fairly affordable and does pdi, programming only. Use it to enable jtag and then use the dragon.

  • Has anyone been able to program the xmega using avrdude with either an avrisp2 or a dragon?
When I try to do this with the avrisp2, I get the message:
avrdude: usbdev_open(): Found AVRISP mkII, serno: 0000B0041148
avrdude: usbdev_open(): error setting configuration 1:
usb_set_configuration(SetConfiguration): device not opened for exclusive access
avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device “usb"
When I try to do this with a dragon:
    avrdude: jtagmkII_recv(): Got message seqno 1 (command_sequence == 1)
    avrdude: Recv: . [a0]
    Raw message:
avrdude: jtagmkII_setparm(): bad response to set parameter command:

  • Check out this port of the Arduino IDE, bootloader, and runtime to the xmega: http://code.google.com/p/xmegaduino/
Right now the runtime and bootloader run only on the xplain. I’m now in the process of porting to the sfe xmega100 breakout. I may also give a crack at porting to the stack foundaries boards, and boston androids.

  • Step 1: register 36000 accts.
Step 2: post a guess from each acct for
every second from 9AM till 7pm.
    Step 3: profit …
ack, ignore this message, off to go register email accts with 10000 different domains …

No public wish lists :(
