As an aside, I was under the impression that a lot of the cost of commercial loggers is for the price of certification for use in competition flying.

Are you planning to have the vario also have an audio output, or will this be purely a logger?

An interesting addition would be to log air temperature around a thermal. Comparing climb rate to temperature as well as barometric pressure might be an interesting thing to do. The aircraft inspector at my club built a vario using temperature sensors in each wingtip to try to tell him which way to turn. This was about 30 years ago, all analog. On a particularly hot day with high climb rates the audio output would go ultrasonic.

The TI MSP430 FRAM stuff is supposed to be really low power. They quote 9uA for 12kB/s memory writes. It would be interesting to compare that with figures for the AVR.

Didn’t get through to the quiz on my first free day. It started at 4pm in the UK, I left work at 5:30pm and during my drive home all the funds evaporated. Still, it was great fun trying!
Is the quiz still available somewhere? I’d like to see how well I would have done if I’d got to it.

No public wish lists :(
