  • Does anyone know if the two large tabs on the sides of the U.FL connector are connected to ground on this specific connector, or just the tab that comes off of the ground circle?

  • I don’t know if you’ve found a solution yet, but I also had the same problem when using the Sparkfun FTDI breakout. The way I got mine to work was to hold down the reset button right after clicking the upload button in the Arduino IDE, then releasing the button right before the IDE said “uploading.” Don’t know if you’ve tried that yet, but just a suggestion.

  • Thanks Toni. I was really hoping for just one more of these since I would have to redesign my project and none of the other GPS’s that I’ve seen have a helical antenna.

  • Thank you so much for the tip about the Adafruit boards! They are definetly much better than the RadioShack boards. I have had that problem once before with the traces falling off. The PTH are much better. SparkFun should consider selling some of these.

  • We could design flexible GPS tracking vests for search and rescue dogs, or just any other type of animal that someone would like to track.

  • Redesign a PASS (Personal Alert Safety System) for the fire departments by integrating the circuit to the inside of the firefighter’s coat. The PASS device usually consists of an accelerometer to determine if the firefighter is still moving and an O2 sensor to detect the remaining level of oxygen in the firefighter’s tank. Using flex potentiometers, you could integrate the inputs from the potentiometers and the accelerometer to minimize the false alarms caused by what the PASS device considers to be inactivity. Since the circuit would be mounted to the inside of the firefighter’s coat, the components would be less exposed to water or heat.
