When will the base plate be ready?

I would recommend anybody getting into microcontrollers to use the Arduino, but I will say the book that comes with this kit is really good. I would recommend the book with an arduino board instead. You can download a free PDF of the book from parallax. Lastly, check out the Parallax website they have some really good sensors.

I got these bad boys working. Make sure to set your baud rate to the baud rate you are operating at in the Serial window of the Arduino software. I forgot to do this and was scratching my head but as soon as I did this I verified the data was correct!!!

    Nathan,
You should think about moving the TX and RX lines from the Xbee socket to pins 2&3 of the Atmega168, so a person can access the serial port and transmit commands at the same time. This is very useful when trouble shooting. Ladyada’s softserial will allow pins 2&3 to act like TX and RX.
    Thanks
