  • As an international customer ….I can travel all of America (yes the continent, it is not a country…) Europe and most of the “non-dictator-controlled” world without a Visa. Yet getting a US visa is hard as hell, and very expensive. Im not sure where the US posters get that there is a free inmigration policy to enter their country. That and the fact that the president with the most votes lost (again…) I guess vex the international comunity.

Some years ago a US man became what I believe has been our only serial killer. Horrible ordeal. http://www.elnuevodiario.com.ni/nacionales/80466-wild-bill-ejecuto-uno-uno-gran-frialdad/ Does this mean all US visitors should be turned back at the borders?

I think terrorism sucks, but so does being afraid, and punishing inoccent families because of this.

  • Hi Pavel Blynk rocks! Ive used it on several proyects and it is so easy. Thank you for taking the time to get it going and making it user firendly. The first time I used the esp thing it was not exactly simple..Blynk let me focus on my proyect and not so much on the software side. thanks again

  • You should invest in this board for a large number of reasons… First this board could probably crunch some numbers for you…one your friends mom did not work a few hours.. she worked 285 hours.. which comes out to almost 80 hours a week…so assuming she took an hour off for lunch, one for breakfast one for dinner… she worked 20 hour days.. So might I suggest..maybe up her wages to $146 an hour or something so you dont sound like such an idiot… Second why does your friend give his mom his facebook account.. he sounds just about as big a looser as you do…. first rule of fight club..dont give your mom your facebook passwords.. however with those 20+hour days your friends mom is pulling… I can see why she cant spare the time to open her own account… You could probably set an app that would light a led under a sign that said dont be a smuck and dont tell your mom your password..there is probably a tutorial for that… Finally you cant click a text only link… cause it isnt a link..its text… so for example if your looser friend or his mom tried to click this link they would be down like $1400 before either of them figured out that the text wont click…Maybe hooking up a (discontinued) https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/11218 spark igniter connected to your nipples..through a 2 amp 5v rellay going off every time you try to spam any website would work…

  • As a hobbyist I appreciate the freedom the arduino ide offers me..and specially the attiny85 and 84 which super rock!! also many (or all) of the proyects I get into are either temporary or oneoffs. Having the posibility to program and code my device let me focus on the really important parts of the design..like color and wheather or not my kids will be able to break the 3dprinted enclosure…I believe the original discussion was not weather we should ban the 555.. or forbid its sale.. i believe it was quite the opposite.. it was the allowance that it was an advanced tool for advanced users…

  • very interesting read… Finding the balance between new tech, quantities and reading the public so as to know how many to order when you know the final price is going to be one of the deciding factors… not so easy…

Also the open source code… common programing language… open platform website… Also how long is this super cool unique gadget function be unique?

The electric imp comes to mind… awesome product potential..in a not cheap but not overly pricey package…The posibility of activating or deactivatiing a rellay or reading a sensor with planetary range….(well wifi enabled planet).. awesome!!! however it required someone like me to learn python/electricimp/html/njsock/json /duinoese when it has taken me ages to ido something in the arduino ide, it required the use of a propietary website, and propietary docking station… I purchased two and it took me (as I said before im not the sharpest tool in the programing toolbox) over a month to get a lamp to blink in my room and send me the confirmation of said blinking to my cellphone… (look into app inventor everybody) . The second imp is still in its original package,,, A year or so later the esp8622 thing joined up with blynk and for $15 did this opensourcedly super well explained and ubereasily… got my lamp blinking (interestingly the same lamp) within an hour…awesome… have 4 working things in several uses and an additional one as an arduino conector to phant…

all this would be a moot point however if there was not a sparkfun/adafruit intermediary that turns all this tech into someone like me can use… and who (at any price) will sell me 1 or 2 units… and take the time not just to come up with a suitabe expample which will allow me to understand and give some basic functionallity to the product, but who will also walk me throuugh the process.

wow I guess I just wanted to say thank you….

  • definitely the most important reason for my purchases from sparkfun are the tutorials… you manage to make things simple.. so i spend time on designing/comming up my crazy inventions not getting a phd in electronics to get them to work. This site empowers people and shows them the ropes… my favorite tutorials are the espthings' various alternatives.. My most used one was the wellding tutorial.. and quite often your friday post is just what I needed to make things work.. keep up the awesome work

  • awesome project… these are going to be the type of guys that come up with cool solutions to world problems in he next 40 years.

  • And si how we burned up the the methane sensor…

  • This is an excellent step forward…

I purchased a wooden cnc at https://www.buildyourcnc.com/ about 6 years ago and had a great time.. It cost me a couple grand and was a blast to play with.. nothing even close to as simple and rugged as this.. but it was 6 years ago….. Ive upgraded to a sturdier one, and hope to be able to get a machining center at some point.. however the capacity to cnc stiff is incredible… the capacity to cut…most plastics wood… and a little aluminum opens up a complete new world of possibilities…making thermoforming molds…even small candle moulds out of aluminum.. or even aluminum stamping molds for the EPS machine is just incredible. The only downside is the learning curve.. and it seems you guys got that down pat…

This year I got an 8'x4' plasma cnc cutter that will cut up to 5/8" sheet without breaking a sweat… Next on my list for my makershed is a cnc laser cutter that will allow me to cut ¼ inch ply and acrilic… I see the Stepoko/frame can handle the 3d movement part of the equation… any ideas on maybe adding a laser cutter add=on so that we can turn the cnc cutter into a laser cutter?

  • Great Writeup Nick!… I agree with the “in-club” need of many of the comments, and had not thought of that. Good point!
