    The signal is much stronger at night (specifically, when it is dark at your location and at Fort Collins). I had done some experiments with the unit from DigiKey, I built a circuit to send the data to my PC and recorded it overnight. The data was excellent in the wee hours, but during the day I could usually get nothing. There is lots of info on the WWVB broadcasts, including graphs that show how the signal strength varies over time, at http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/grp40/wwvb.cfm.

    The link he gives is just a link to the Proto Advantage store. There doesn’t appear to be any breakout board that is specific to this chip. They carry generic SMT to DIP adapters as does SparkFun.
