  • I just got my first EL Sequencer and wired it up to inverter, EL wire, and a 5V power supply and it runs the program that was loaded and the EL wires light. I seem to have bought the wrong version of the FTDI. I did not know there are two versions and I got the 3.3 volt version. I hooked it up to the EL Sequencer and my PC with and without the EL Sequencer powered and cannot get my computer to recognize it. I tried to modify the traces on the back of the FTDI for 5 volts but still get the same thing. Questions:

1 - Do I need to power the EL Sequencer off a separate power supply when connected to the FTDI and computer via USB to program? 2 - Could I have cooked my FTDI (and/or EL Sequencer) since I started with the wrong FTDI.
