The KK flight controller boards are based on a 20 MHz single core 8-bit MCU (Atmega644 PA or Atmega324 PA) which just has a couple of kilobytes available for the flightcontrol software.
The dual-core 500MHz CPU, (single core) 100 MHz MCU and massive amounts of available storage in the Edison would make a great platform for super-stable flightcontroller boards with a LOT of processing power left over for other tasks, such as navigation (route-planning?) or maybe some airborne robotics (moveable limbs? :)
A bit expensive? Yes.. but think of the possibilities! :-D
