Building a GPS System - Thanks to the efforts of brilliant engineers and scientists, GPS (Global Positioning System) is a cornerstone technology in our world today. Whether it's from our vehicle's navigation system or a handheld device while hiking through the woods, we are now able to pinpoint our exact latitude and longitude from satellites orbiting the earth. Pretty crazy, right? Come along with us and learn what it is, how it works and how you can make your own GPS system.
Distance Sensing - Distance and proximity sensing allow you to easily detect the whereabouts of objects without physical contact. These types of sensors generally work by outputting a signal of some kind (e.g. laser, IR LED, ultrasonic waves, etc.), and then reading how it has changed on its return. That change may be in the intensity of the returned signal, the time it takes the signal to return, etc.
Engineering Essentials - Electrical engineering is a technical discipline concerned with the study, design and application of electricity! Through electrical engineering, we can design devices and systems using electrical components such as resistors, capacitors and transistors. Electrical Engineers can design and work on items such as super low power microcontrollers, PCB Design, high power turbines, navigation systems and more.
Python - Python is a programming language that lets you write code quickly and effectively. With a design philosophy that focuses on code readability, Python is easy to learn and use. Thanks to the advances in single board computers and powerful microcontrollers, Python can now be used to control hardware.
