Cosmetic dentists fix all those teeth imperfections that cause us to have insecurities, and give us confidence that comes from having a great smile. If you are interested in pursuing a career in the dental field like cosmetic dentistry, you will need to know a couple of things. Educational Requirements Bachelors Degree Becoming a cosmetic dentist, like most career fields involves obtaining a bachelors degree. When considering your major, try to choose something that is science related like biology. This will come in handy in the future when you have to take your dental classes. You can also complete two years of predental education, if the dental school you are looking into accepts that. Dental School After college, you will have to apply to a dental school for an additional four years of dental training. Just like when you applied to college, you will have to apply to dental school. For this you will need a high gpa and you’ll have to pass the dental admissions test. During these four years you will focus solely on dentistry and the last two years, you will get clinical experience with a practicing dentist. After completing dental school, you will have to become licensed which requires you to pass the National Board of Dental Examinations. Afterwards you will receive the title of DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) or DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery). You can also specialize in one of the nine specialties:

If you are choosing to go in the cosmetic dentistry route, the recommended specialty, you may want to pursue is Prosthodontics. If you do not specialize in any particular area, than to become a cosmetic dentist you will to have obtain cosmetic dental training afterwards. Of course, when looking at any career you might be curious in regards to their pay range. Depending if you are self employed, working under a general or private practice, and the years of experience that you have, all come in to play in regards to how much you will make. However, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the pay range for a cosmetic dentist is anywhere from $87,100 to $227,500.
