Description: This is a brass sponge that includes a sturdy base and a soldering iron holder. The sponge will help clean your soldering iron tip. Brass sponges clean better than conventional sponges and will not damage your iron tip. Made of low abrasive brass shavings and requires no water. We also sell replacement sponges below.

  • Try going from this back to a sponge… you can’t. Soldering sucks without it.
    Highly recommend the brass!

  • The flip-up iron rest strikes me as a brilliant way to have a hot iron flop around and burn something. It’s not very restful. I don’t really get the detents on the base either…was this a cigarette tray before it was repurposed? Do yourself a favor and use the holder that hopefully came with your soldering station.
Oh well. It holds the brass thing (and misc. soldering debris) so it doesn’t make a mess. That’s all I wanted, a lazy way out of having to find my own heat-resistant brass fuzz container, and it works fine there.

  • I’ve only used a wet sponge and I use it religiously, and I’m still using the tip that came with the iron (Weller WES51). What are the differences between this and a wet sponge? (Besides having to wet the sponge.) Why is this better? Is it better in every way or just some aspects? Is there a technique to using this type of sponge? A cursory google search didn’t turn up much. One survey most ppl used a wet sponge.

    • There’s not much difference in action between this and a wet sponge, you just wipe the tip on it as normal. It will last longer than a sponge (effectively forever), and is cleaner for the iron (won’t redeposit anything on the tip). And have others have posted, it looks cool.

  • Is there any way that this would hold up one of those butane soldering irons?

  • I agree with Earlz, this works well.
I have all sorts of weird electronic stuff on my desk, LED displays, lasers, etc., yet this is the item that people ask me about the most. When it was new, it looked like a little “pot of gold.” People just had to know what it was.
I don’t use to hold my soldering iron so I won’t comment on how that part of it works, but it does work well at cleaning soldering iron tips.

  • Bought one of these and it definitely works better than a regular sponge. Also, the stand is pretty awesome too. I like it better than the 3rd hand stand I have.
