Today we are talking about a new SparkFun class offering called "Introduction to Microcontrollers for Educators." Over the course of this two day class, we will also discuss making teaching tools, soldering or sewing electronics and tapping into free Open Source Educational communities. You'll learn skills you can apply in your classroom whether you teach High School, Middle School or even Elementary School!

Topics we will cover in this class include:

Electrical Schematic Basics
Using a Multimeter
How the SparkFun Inventor's Kit Circuits Work
Sensors and Outputs
Soldering or Sewing Electronics
Beginning Programming Concepts
Differentiated Programming Environments
Basic Serial Communication for Troubleshooting
Virtual Prototyping (for those who wish to move beyond the kit)
Various Projects for Getting Students Excited

Furthermore, this class is good for 1.0 Semester Credit Hour through Colorado School of Mines with an additional payment of $50.00 to be paid at the time of the class. So you've got that going for you - which is nice. The class takes place on March 31st and April 1st, 2012 from 9 AM to 5 PM right here at SparkFun HQ. Hope to see you there!

We are actually in the process of finally purchasing the equipment necessary to record our classes/workshops. It’s possible that we will have the ability to record this class but it’s too soon to say. We would be happy to provide the materials – please email education (at) sparkfun.com! Thanks!

SWEET!! How did you get CSM to offer the credit? The only problem is that it’s Engineering Days weekend for CSM. I wonder if they did that on purpose to try and prevent current students from taking the course.

I understand that an online video of the class has been spoken about many times, but would it be possible for a transcript of this class at least?

I am doing some work with my local high school, helping set up a robotics and electronics curriculum. This information would be perfect to pass on to the teaching staff. Unfortunately I’m in Australia, so its a tad too far to travel.

I second Cybot’s request. Just the printed course materials would be a help for those of us trying to introduce this stuff to our staff. Maybe CSM could tape it and put it on iTunes U.
