Note: The GS406 has been replaced with this GPS receiver. The specifications are almost all identical, but the GS407 makes use of a newer helical antenna, which makes the overall length a bit smaller.

  • Just to let people know, the EM-406 breakout board cannot be used as is. It does work though if you plug the GPS into the breakout board but the pins on the breakout board should be hooked up TX->TX, RX->RX, GND->1PPS, 3.3V->GND, an LED ->5V. With the 3.3V to the ground pin it will heat up both the VCCand the VBATT on the GPS chip. This is how i got it to work. I am also experiencing that it does not retain the configuration after the power is removed. Too bad they did not use the prior version chip-set for the GS407.

  • Which chipset is it exactly? There are an half dozen of u-blox 6 versions.

  • Does this have UART? I don’t see it on the connector (just USB), but it does mention it on the title page. If it does have UART, where do you hook it up?

  • can anyone shed light on how to get this working as USB mode, simply wiring it up isn’t working for me.

  • As far as the chipsets, the datasheet says it supports GPS L1 and GALILEO systems. Only the LEA-6N and LEA-6H support those. But that’s just an educated guess. It would be nice to find some more documentation though.

  • can this module work under extreme temperature conditions like -40 C,if used in a satellite project?

    • They haven’t been discontinued as far as we know, but the antenna manufacturer has been having some financial difficulties, so we are still waiting to see how things work out for them and whether we’ll be able to actually continue stocking these.

      • Thanks Toni. I was really hoping for just one more of these since I would have to redesign my project and none of the other GPS’s that I’ve seen have a helical antenna.

        • You could try checking in the forums and on IRC to see if anyone else has one they’d be willing to sell you. Alternatively, you could try checking with one of our distributors and see if they might have some stock still.

  • What is the manufacture’s part number for the J1 mating connector?

    Connector Type 5.1 On Module => 1OOSH-O6P 5.2 On Device => 1OOSH-T

  • Someone can confirm if this product has serial or usb interface? :)

  • I have directly contacted the manufacturer and have been told the chip is the UBX-G6010-ST standalone GNSS chip. It does not have one of the standard Ublox-6 Positioning modules (e.g. NEO-6 or AMY-6 etc.)

    I am not entirely sure what the major differences between the standalone positioning chips and the standalone positioning modules are as they look fairly similar in spec.

  • Can configuration be written to flash on this or is it all lost on power down like the D2523T-6

    • I was unable to get either of two of these receivers to write to flash. It appears to be battery-backed-ram only

  • Is the picture wrong on these? The connector doesn’t look like what the GS407 BOB (BOB 10496) connector shows. The datasheet on the BOB page shows the GS407 with what looks like the proper connector for this board though. Sort of confusing.

    • The GS407 BOB was made for the old version of this unit (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9436). This one would use the EM-406 BOB instead, so they should probably just remove the GS407 BOB from the Related Products for this one. Maybe at least add a note on the GS407 BOB page as well, since Sparkfun doesn’t even offer a GPS that works with it anymore.

  • Hey Guys, could we get a confirmation of which ublox chipset this uses? I need raw GPS and ephemeris data, which only the LEA-6T or NEO-6T support. Thanks!
