Description: Here is a simple 5 pack of green LEDs for LilyPad, or whatever else you can dream up. Light up the night!

LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads to allow them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and sensor boards are available. They’re even washable!

  • How bright are theses compared to normal 5mm LED’s? They look cool, but if they’re dimmer than normal LED’s, I have no reason to buy them.

    • I’m afraid there’s no such thing as ‘normal’ 5mm LEDs. They come in all sorts of intensities, wavelengths and beam characteristics that severely affect how bright it appears. However, you can get a rough estimate from the datasheet. It puts the luminous intensity at 800mcd (Candela) with a viewing angle of 130°, compared to e.g. LED - Basic Green 5mm where the datasheet reports about 175mcd, 50°*, or compared to LED - Super Bright Green at 11,500mcd, 10°. So while it would probably be brighter than the Basic Green, it would be nowhere near as bright as the Super Bright Green. On the other hand, it’s tiny and in an e-textiles -friendly format, and the Basic Green comes in a nice diffuse green package (so you’ll know it’s green even when it’s not on, which may be important for indicators). Each have their merits :)
