Arduino Project Enclosure

The Arduino enclosure allows you to easily enclose your Arduino main board, Arduino Mega, or some of the other board that fits the Arduino foot print. It simply presses shut, so you don't have to worry about screws or fasteners.

It has room internally for an Arduino and a shield. It even has a removable tab mated for use with an Ethernet shield. It also has a snap-in compartment in the back for accessing switches or connections or battery access.

Note: Some older Arduino boards have a slightly smaller hole near the rear the ICSP connector. To make the case work with these boards simply drill out the hole to 1/8" and you will be fine. Also, with the newer Ethernet Shields, you will need to remove one of the pegs to get everything to fit correctly.

Note: This does not work with the FEZ Domino.

    What material is this? I'd like to cut out a hole to mount a display, but my library's makerspace won't put anything in the laser cutter unless they know what it is and whether it will produce toxic fumes when laser cut.

    I see a comment that says this will work with the Arduino Uno. My question is, if you put a shield and an Xbee antenna (flat) mounted onto the Uno, would this still fit? Also, would the material of the enclosure be fit to allow proper radiation from the antenna, or would it limit the antenna's range? Thanks

    A picture with FEZ or Arduino in the enclosure would really help see how all fit together.

    • It's coming. We are just a bit backed up on pictures with the recent trip to Denmark last week. We should have something up by next week. Essentially though, the Arduino Mega takes up almost the entire internal space. If you stacked two megas on top of eachother, it would fill the internal volume.
      And if you look at the third picture, the 2 pegs in the middle match up with the two holes at the end of the arduino/fez. So, the end of the board would be there.

    This would be really awesome if it came with a built in battery holder. People can just solder in the wires from the battery holder to the board when the project is finished. It would be even better if it also allowed for "Spacers" between the bottom part and the lid to allow the addition of Shields. Basically, the "Spacers" are just rectangular strips of plastic with the appropriate grooves to fit between the bottom and the lid.

    Is this container decently water proof, ignoring the access holes of course? And is there access to the pins on the arduino? Seems it wouldn't be very useful if there wasn't but i can't tell form the pictures

    • I wouldn't submerge it in water without adding (a lot of) additional waterproofing materials around the connection points, but it will protect it relatively well from your basic elements. There isn't direct access to all the pins (again, trying to minimize environemental access points), but there is room internally for the Arduino to have a shield stacked on it, or have some smaller components connected to the pins. You could always drill out some holes if you need to run wires away from the enclosure.

    Something that should be obvious but I totally spaced out on... it won't fit the POE Ethernet Shield (something they might want to add to the description). I really like the fit though for the Uno, nice and snug, and am looking forward to dropping a normal Ethernet Shield in it once it comes in (or just pulling the POE off this one).

    Will the Arduino Ethernet fit in this? It seems that the pin locations should be compatible, and you would just need drill out the hole for the USB port so the ethernet jack would fit, unless I'm missing something.

    It would appear that the Uno R3 with R3 ethernet shield does not perfectly fit in this case! The extra two header pins, the new SCL and SDA pins, near the AREF, bump into the moulding that catches the post that goes through the screw hole now. It's fixable with an exact knife, but mildly annoying. The Uno R3 fits by itself, however, just not with the R3 ethernet shield. Bummer!

    This enclosure perfectly fit my Mega2560 and an ethernet shield.

    One issue I'm noticing is that the voltage regulator on the ethernet shield can get kinda toasty. A future revision of this product could benefit from a spot to mount a fan.

    They say it has room for a shield, but you have to cut off the BlueSMiRF connectors on the SparkFun or CuteDigi protoshields to make it fit.

    Does anyone know if the Color LCD Shield (LCD-09363) will fit in this enclosure without too much hacking? It looks like the bulge for the ethernet jack might be where the edge of an opening would need to be cut.

    Does anybody know if there is still enough clearance to mount switches, jacks, LEDs, etc.? The photos make it look as if it might be a tight fit with just enough room for an Arduino, shield and 9v battery... no room for any external controls...

      You can fit a shield with stackable headers into the box, so you can get some devices outside of the box.
      Here is an example from one of my projects:
      In my case, I have an audio jack, but it runs through the battery holder area, because I am powering the box from an external power supply.

    The Arduino Pro doesn't fit in this enclosure so you'll need standoffs to mount it.

    I tried putting in a FEZ Domino v1.1 and it doesn't fit at all. The microUSB connector hits the plastic edge (Meaning it can't even go down all the way) but even if it could, the power and USB ports don't line up to any of the holes, so it's fairly useless anyway.
    The description should be changed.

    So after having had the enclosure sitting on shelf for about 6 weeks, I took it out today to put my arduino in. ... .. and... . . it doesn't fit. I have an officialy arduino too. Odd. The hole next to the ICSP is just a bit smaller than the others (by design it would seem) and makes the enclosure useless, as the plastic peg cant fit in it. Are all the arduinos like this!?

      This box fits the Arduino Mega 2560 perfectly. The middle two pegs just need to be trimmed off part-way to allow a MegaShield to press on. Being able to trim pegs for multiple different Arduino boards makes sense.
      Shields are configured just fine with the case top off, then the top is just pressed on when you are ready to use.
      The rubber feet provided with a current standard Arduino package can be attached to the bottom of the case. A neat, inexpensive solution for ruggedizing your Arduino and favorite shield for clean project or portable applications.

    You mention what we should do if an arduino board has a small hole next to the ICSP connector.
    What do you suggest we do if a shield is missing a hole.
    Most, if not all, of the Sparkfun shields I have are missing the hole on the Digital side of the ICSP connector. Some of these (like the SparkFun XBee shield) have traces running where the hole should be.
    The extreme example I have is a Sparkfun MicroSD shield, which doesn't have any of the holes in it....

    Is there any way to access the pins ? looks like a cage for your arduino, but how would you use the arduino inside of that?

Good product, good packaging and fast delivery

Very versatile

This is the most versatile enclosure I have found.
I have used many of these, I just wish they would make one that was a bit taller for support for multiple shields.

Product Quality and Shipment..

Hi, This is the second time we purchased Arduino boxes and this time we saw the quality of the boxes were not the best. Also the shipment via UPS was horrible, and we consider they are thieves, the shipment took one week and I had to pay customs storage by UPS fault. In summary, the experience buying things in Sparkfun was horrible.
