SparkFun TRS Jack Breakout - 1/4" Stereo

The TRS (tip ring sleeve) jack breakout is a simple board that allows a 1/4" stereo audio jack to be soldered on to gain easy access to all of its broken out pins. Makes jack easier to use with breadboards, and labels the connections to cut down on confusion about the normal connections. With this breakout you should find it less complicated to add a 1/4" jack to your home stereos or PA systems.

This board breaks out the all the pins you will need to gain access to your TRS jack including GND, T (tip), TN (tip neutral), R (ring), RN (ring neutral), S (sleeve), and SN (sleeve neutral). We've also included two mounting holes, which can easily be snapped off if need be, for your basic 4-40 type screw.

So what are the part number(s) of jacks that fit this board?

TN, RN, and SN are NOT "___ Negative". The N stands for "Normal", as shown in the schematic.

This breakout is useful for TRS jacks with the capacity to pass-through a signal but to break in a different signal upon insertion of the 1/4" (NOT 1.4", that would be huge) plug (building your own patch panels, for example).

Of course, you can use this to break out a normal 1/4" Stereo jack by just wiring the T, R, and S points and ignoring the others.

Excellent quality breakout board for HiFi Jacks

The usual awesome quality, fit, and finish of a Sparkfun PCB board. Easy to solder, holes are breadboard and pin header spaced. The mounting holes are a huge plus where the jack itself is lacking, if you are only relying on the bezel to mount. It definitely needs this or to be hard soldered to a full PCB that's sized to your project. Having a small separate one like this though adds a lot of flexibility to your design.
