Description: Replacement:TOL-10830. We have a newer non-contact thermometer. This page is for reference only.

This is TempGun, a non-contact infrared thermometer. We needed an accurate tool to calibrate our silicon temperature sensors. Oddly enough, we found these little guys in our backyard (well nearby actually), being used and sold in a reptile supply shop! Just point it at any object and get the surface temperature. Useful for detecting if chipsets are operating within the maximum temperature ranges.

  • Range: (-27°F to 428°F) switchable to Celsius (-33°C to 220°C)
  • Resolution: 0.1°
  • Accuracy: ±2%
  • Response Time: 1 second
  • Field of View (D:S Ratio): 1:1
  • Modes: Max/Min/Lock
  • Emissivity: 0.95 def

Customer Comments

  • Yes this unit can be easily connected to a micro-controller
Pin out: A-activate (pulse low to take a reading, or keep low to read continuously) D-Data out C-Clock (read data bit on falling edge) G-GND V-power (I used 3.3vdc not sure what the limits are) Data string: it outputs 5 bytes of data: 0xddmmllccee dd = internal or external temp label(0x4c=external temp,0x66 internal temp) mm = temperature msb ll = temperature lsb cc = check-sum (cc=dd+mm+ll) ee = end of line?(always seems to be 0x0D) temperature (in Kelvin) = 0xmmll / 16

  • Great for watching for overheating of IC’s, motors, inductors,… A little silly putty and you can mount it at the optimal angle for sensing and viewing the screen. I place it ideally ~2" away from the target. The Lock function enables hands free operation with continuous reads. The timeout is also kind to the battery.
Yeah, has anyone found a simply interface solution for this device? Perhaps a analog line to an ADC or digital from the connector.

  • Wondering can this be modified for a computer port? The A, G, C, D, V connections on the bottom of the PCB look interesting.

  • Greetings,
    Distance range?
angles/altitude view of detection? ie, how much I need to sense 360?, at what altitude?
    Thanks

  • I love the user’s manual for this thing.
    Battery Replacement
It it important to turn the unit off before replacing the battery otherwise the Temp Gun may malfunction. In fact, it could cause a tear in the fabric of the Universe, and all of existence may be erased. You don’t want that.
