Power Supply - 12V/5V (2A)

Does your project need a little more umph than our wall wart adapters can supply? Why not give this a shot? This 2A "laptop brick" supply outputs both 5V and 12VDC and is terminated with a 4-pin ATX connector.

The ATX connector is a standard 8981 Series Power Connector, like the disk drive connectors in your PC. Adapters and cable assemblies are easy to come by at computer supply stores (also, check our related items) so you shouldn't have any trouble getting your project powered up.

Note: Only the pin next to 5V is grounded. The pin next to 12V is not connected (NC). Please refer to the picture of the bottom of the unit for more information. The AC cable for is included and works with 100-240VAC inputs via a 2-prong style plug.

    The description of this power supply being "2A" is a bit ambiguous, since it has two different voltage outputs. However, the datasheet clarifies that it can supply 2A at 12V (24W) and also 2A at 5V (10W), for a total of 34W.

Great buy!

Recently purchased one of these to power a project I was working on. Needed both 5 volt and 12 volt so this fit the bill exactly. The unit is very well made and the outputs are both very, very close to the stated values. Also appears that there is very little ripple on the outputs. Had a little trouble finding a receptacle that fits the output plug but finally found out it is the standard for the power connectors on the old floppy drives.

12V/5V DC Cable too short

I suppose I should have studied the picture a little better, however I have never seen an AC adapter come with such a short cable on the output side. The cable is permanently attached and the only way to resolve this would be to buy an extension cable with mating male/female molex connectors on each end.

Kind of useless with the missing ground

I had hoped to use this to power a 12V DAC and a separate raspberry Pi. Unfortunately, I only get to choose one because there's only one ground. That means it outputs 5V OR 12V (not 5V and 12V) unless you're willing to daisy chain the ground connection.

Hi there! Both voltages share the same ground pin so both voltages are available.

So convenient for dual voltage projects!
