Product Overview
WiFi and cellular networks only cover a fraction of the globe, so when you need to communicate from any remote location, whether it be the middle of the ocean or a remote mountain peak, the RockBLOCK 9603N will keep you connected.
This SatComm Module allows you to send and receive short data messages from anywhere on Earth with a clear view of the sky. Powered by the Iridium satellite network, it is the ultimate solution for remote telemetry, robot control, weather monitoring, or emergency communication systems where terrestrial networks cannot reach.
Designed for Integration
The RockBLOCK 9603N is the compact, lightweight sibling of the standard RockBLOCK Mk2. While it shares the same capabilities, it is stripped down to be as small and light as possible, making it the ideal choice for systems integrators and product developers where enclosure space is crucial.
- Professional Connectivity: Instead of a standard header, this unit uses a small form-factor Molex connector for serial, power, and signaling. This saves space and ensures a secure connection.
- Ready to Transmit: At its heart is the Iridium 9603 modem. The RockBLOCK board handles the power requirements and exposes the modem's interface via a simple serial connection (UART), making it easy to interface with your microcontroller.
- Antenna Ready: This module features an SMA connector, allowing you to attach the specific external antenna that fits your project's form factor (antenna sold separately).
Please keep in mind that while the RockBLOCK handles communication perfectly, it is not a PNT device. If your data packets need to include location coordinates, you will need to pair this with a separate GNSS/GPS receiver.
Simple, Flexible Airtime
Satellite communication used to be complex and expensive; RockBLOCK makes it accessible.
- Pay-As-You-Go: There are no annual contracts. You only pay for the months you actually use the device.
- Affordable: Line rental is approximately £12 GBP (~$15 USD) per month.
- Management: Credits for messages are purchased via the RockBLOCK management system, which offers a built-in billing platform to manage your devices.
Airtime must be purchased from Rock Seven via their admin portal. While the device is locked to Rock Seven by default, it can be unlocked for use with other providers for a $60 USD per modem fee.
Whether you are tracking ocean buoys, monitoring remote pipelines, or guiding a high-altitude balloon, the RockBLOCK 9603N will keep you in contact. It is the professional choice for adding global satellite communication to your most compact embedded designs.
