FAQs about the SparkFun Affiliate Program

• How does the SparkFun Affiliate Program work?

  Earn commissions by referring customers to SparkFun. When someone clicks your affiliate link and purchases eligible SparkFun Original products, you'll receive a commission on qualifying sales. The program is free to join!

• Who should join the affiliate program?

  The SparkFun Affiliate Program is meant for creators, educators, makers, engineers, and community members who produce original content that showcases SparkFun products and helps others learn, build, and innovate.

  Affiliates are expected to promote SparkFun in a truthful, educational, and authentic manner. 

• How do commissions work?

  Affiliates earn 10% commission on eligible SparkFun Original products purchased through their referral links.  SparkFun Originals are products we design, manufacture, and support ourselves. By promoting these products, you're helping us continue to invest in open-source hardware, educational resources, tutorials, and new product development while earning a higher-value commission. Eligible products can be generally identified here.

  Products from third-party manufacturers and certain exclusions are not eligible. Commissions are calculated using the qualifying product subtotal before shipping, taxes, and fees. There may be special campaigns from time to time that give larger percentage of commission so make sure to Subscribe to Email notifications in your affiliate account settings to stay up to date.

  Commissions are paid out via PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account you can set one up here. Once you start earning commissions you can check your balance in your account. You can select the amount of commissions to withdraw at any time. The minimum payout amount is $10. You can expect to receive your commissions sent in 1-2 business days. 

• How do I apply?

  Follow the steps below in order to apply to become a SparkFun Affiliate. A video walkthrough is also available below to view the process.

  1. Log-in to your SparkFun account. If you don't already have an account you can create an account here. 
  2. Locate the SparkFun Affiliate Program link in the left hand menu.
  3. Fill out your main Referring URL and enter the PayPal email you'd like to receive commissions. Please read through the terms and conditions and sign up!
     1. Subscribing to Email notifications is a great way to be notified of special campaigns, discounts for affiliates, as well as any changes to the program.
  4. You will recieve a confirmation or denial email with 1-2 business days. 
• Where can I share my affiliate links?

  You can share your links on:

  • Personal websites
  • Blogs
  • YouTube
  • Social media
  • Email newsletters (where permitted)
  • Anywhere else that you showcase your creations that feature SparkFun Original products!

  Promotional codes are available for where links are not applicable. Podcasts for instance could use a promo code rather than a link.

• What activities are prohibited?

  The following uses of affiliate links or promo codes are strictly prohibited and grounds for removal from the Affiliate program:

  • Sharing your promotional code with coupon sites
  • Self-referrals
  • Fraudulent orders
  • Cookie stuffing
  • Spam
  • Misleading advertising
  • SparkFun Trademark abuse
  • Incentivized purchases without approval
  • Any other nefarious acts to earn commissions that don't actually involve promoting our products through your content

  Accounts that violate program policies may be suspended or terminated, and unpaid commissions may be forfeited.

• Can I earn commission on my own purchases?
