J-Link debug probes are widely considered the most popular choice for optimizing debugging and flash programming. The SEGGER J-Link EDU Mini is a JTAG/SWD debugger that delivers professional-grade functionality in a highly compact, minimalistic form factor. Designed specifically for educational purposes, it provides students and hobbyists with full support for Arm® and RISC-V-based microcontrollers.
Despite its significantly reduced size, this miniature probe maintains the powerful features that make the J-Link family so popular:
- Fast Download Rates: Quickly load your code directly into the internal flash of supported microcontrollers.
- Unlimited Breakpoints: Set an unlimited number of breakpoints within flash memory for comprehensive evaluation.
- Modern Connections: Interfaces easily with your hardware using a modern USB-C port and a standard 9-pin 0.05-inch Samtec FTSH connector.
This means you get all the core debugging power you need to temporarily halt program execution, read or write memory addresses, and inspect your MCU in a live system without needing an expensive commercial probe.
Licensing & Support Rules
Because this probe is offered at a highly reduced price to make professional tools accessible to students, it comes with very strict licensing agreements. You may use the J-Link EDU Mini for non-profit educational purposes only!
Non-profit educational purposes means that you may not use the J-Link EDU Mini and its J-Link software:
- directly or indirectly in or for a profit organization or business purposes or other undertaking intended for profit.
- directly or indirectly within any other commercial environment (e.g., office).
- to develop, debug, program, or manufacture a commercial product (or parts thereof).
- to either earn money or reasonably anticipate the receipt of monetary gain from it.
For clarification purposes: A student using the J-Link EDU Mini directly or indirectly within a business or profit organization (e.g., company) is considered a violation of the scope of this agreement.
Any other use of the J-Link EDU Mini is prohibited and illegal! If there is any doubt that a certain use may be considered within the foregoing scope or whether your use of the J-Link EDU Mini applies to an educational situation, it is strongly recommended to get in touch and consult SEGGER prior to use. Additionally, please note that the J-Link EDU Mini does not come with official direct support; however, you can visit the SEGGER community forum to ask questions and troubleshoot problems with other users.
