Product Overview
The SparkFun Analog MEMS Microphone Breakout makes it incredibly easy to work with the high-quality SPH8878LR5H-1 analog microphone from Knowles. We designed this board with an integrated OPA344 OpAmp to boost the microphone's output to a usable level, allowing you to plug directly into an ADC on a microcontroller or something like the SparkFun Spectrum Shield.
The onboard OpAmp adds a bias voltage of 1/2 VCC to the audio signal. When capturing standard sound sources, such as a normal speaking voice a few feet away, the audio (AUD) output signal will register at about 200mV peak-to-peak. This helps provide a cleaner audio signal.

Enclosure Mounting
To help you build more professional enclosures, the SPH8878LR5H-1 features a convenient bottom-port design.
- Flush Mounting: Because the audio port is located on the bottom of the sensor, you can mount this microphone breakout completely flush against the outer surface of your project enclosure.
- Omni-Directional Sensing: The sensor excels at picking up sound from all directions, making it an excellent choice for voice detection or ambient noise monitoring.
- Simple Connections: The board breaks out the essential VCC, Ground, and AUD pins, making it easy to wire into your circuit.
We designed this version of the Analog MEMS Microphone as a drop-in replacement, so users with previous versions of this breakout board can incorporate it back into their projects without extensive rewiring or other system changes.
