Product Overview
The MQ series of gas sensors is incredibly popular for detecting everything from carbon monoxide to methane, but they have one major physical flaw: their oddly spaced, oversized pins simply do not fit into standard breadboards. The SparkFun Gas Sensor Breakout solves this frustrating problem by adapting those unwieldy pins into an organized, standard 0.1-inch footprint, making it an extremely handy addition to your next biometric or environmental sensing project.
Universal Compatibility & Simple Wiring
This (admittedly) simple breakout board is designed to perfectly accommodate the unique pinout of almost the entire MQ gas sensor family.
- Supported Sensors: Fully compatible with the MQ-2 (Smoke), MQ-3 (Alcohol), MQ-4 (Methane), MQ-6 (LPG), MQ-7 (Carbon Monoxide), MQ-8 (Hydrogen), MQ-9B (CO and CH4), MQ-136 (Hydrogen Sulfide), and MQ-137 (Ammonia). Other MQ sensors should also work with this breakout, but review each sensor's pinout before purchasing.
- Minimal Components: Getting a reading is incredibly straightforward. All you need to provide is 5V to VCC, ground, and a single resistor connected to your microcontroller's Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC).

Choose Your Sensor
Please keep in mind that this product is just the bare printed circuit board. To build a complete hazardous gas monitor, breathalyzer, or environmental data logger, you will need to purchase the specific MQ sensor for your application and solder it to the breakout yourself. Be sure to check our gas sensing category or the recommended products below to find the exact sensor you need to get started!
