Take physical control of your wearable electronics with the LilyPad Slide Switch. This simple, two-position (DPDT) switch provides a tried-and-true way to manage power or trigger actions in your e-textile projects. Whether you are adding a main ON/OFF power switch to save battery life, selecting between different light modes, or silencing a buzzer for some peace and quiet, this board gives you a straightforward physical interface that's easy to sew into any garment.
This LilyPad switch is rated for 4V @ 300mA, but will comfortably work at 5V with a slight reduction in maximum current.
Sewable E-Textile Design
LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. To ensure these components integrate seamlessly into your wardrobe (no pun intended), LilyPad buttons and switches rely on some specific hardware choices:
- Sewable Tabs: The LilyPad Slide Switch features two large, conductive connecting pads that allow you to stitch them directly into fabric using conductive thread.
- Low-Profile Build: Measuring just 7.75mm by 18.1mm on a thin 0.8mm PCB, this board lays perfectly flat against or inside of your garments.
- Washable Hardware: Built to survive real-world use, your finished clothing can be carefully washed without ruining the electronics.
By wiring this slide switch in-line with your power supply, sensors, or LEDs, you'll have tactile control over how your circuit behaves. It's a fundamental building block for electronics and any interactive clothing project that requires user input or manual power management.
