Product Overview
The SparkFun 6DoF IMU Qwiic Breakout delivers precise acceleration and angular rate measurements, plus an intelligent, on-chip, motion-triggered interrupt engine that provides power-efficient motion tracking in a 1-inch-by-1-inch package. This 16-bit IMU sensor can be easily incorporated into your next project via solderless Qwiic connectors and handles complex tasks like step counting and tap detection internally, so your microcontroller is free to manage other operations. Oh, yeah, and it can beat the heat by operating at up to 105°C
Smart Motion Interrupts & Measurements
What sets Bosch Sensortec's BMI330 apart from other 6DoF IMUs is its on-chip interrupt engine and extensive measurement capabilities. Instead of forcing your main microcontroller to constantly poll for data, this IMU runs in a low-power state while actively monitoring for specific motion events.
- Built-in Detection: Uses integrated smart algorithms for motion detection, step counting, orientation sensing, and single, double, or triple tap detection.
- Configurable Ranges: Includes a 3-axis accelerometer with four configurable measurement ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g, alongside a 3-axis gyroscope with five configurable measurement ranges of ±125°/s, ±250°/s, ±500°/s, ±1000°/s, and ±2000°/s.
- Hardware Synchronization: Provides sensor timestamps to synchronize data between the IMU and your host device, alongside two programmable I/O pins routed directly to standard PTH pads.
The BMI330 also has variable sampling rates up to 6.4kHz in Normal and High Performance modes and 400Hz in Low-Power mode. Speaking of power modes, the sensor is highly power efficient for its capabilities, drawing a max of 790µA in High Performance mode and only 45µA in Low-Power mode.

Qwiic, SPI, & I3C Integration
While the BMI330 breakout communicates over I2C by default, it also supports SPI and I3C. To make connecting and talking to the board as easy as possible, dual Qwiic connectors offer a daisy-chainable I2C interface to your main system. The board also breaks out all communication pins, plus power and ground, for users who prefer a soldered connection or want to use the BMI330 over SPI. If you want to switch between two-wire (I2C and I3C) and SPI, you can do so by adjusting solder jumpers on the back of the breakout.
