Product Overview
This Split-Core Current Transformer is a clamp-style sensor designed to measure AC current without disconnecting the circuit. Simply open the hinged core, place it around a single current-carrying conductor, and close the clamp to form an isolated current-measurement system. With a 100A input rating and a 100A:50mA current transformation ratio, it's well suited for monitoring AC motors, lighting, appliances, power supplies, and other AC equipment.
Non-Invasive Monitoring
Measuring heavy AC loads can be dangerous and complicated if you have to splice lines. This current clamp uses a ferrite core with a 13mm by 13mm opening to easily wrap around your existing cables. Once clamped, it provides a 50mA output at its 100A rated input and supports a frequency range of 50Hz to 150kHz. It maintains an accurate ±3% non-linearity from 10% to 120% of the rated input current.
Because these sensors are often deployed in utility boxes and industrial environments, the hardware is rated for long-term and repeated use:
- Hinge Design: The split-core mechanism is built to withstand at least 1,000 opening and closing cycles.
- Dielectric Strength: Rated for 6,000VAC for one minute to ensure complete electrical isolation from the monitored line.
- Safe Housing: Enclosed in a UL94-V0 flame-retardant outer shell for added environmental protection.
We recommend pairing this transformer with the SparkFun Qwiic ADE7953 Non-Invasive Current Sensor (not included) for the best hardware experience. Its standard 3.5mm TRS plug fits directly into the ADE7953's audio jack. These will provide you with a completely solderless current sensor for monitoring high-power AC lines!
